Trevor P Langworth: Why don't they do the ball tracking first. What a waste of time?
Ball, the first Jake to play Test cricket (for anyone), is a strapping lad. Tall, shoulders wider than a wardrobe, blond hair in a tidy quiff. The sort of chap you expect your daughter to introduce you to. After rattling left-hander Masood's pads, he's angling the ball across. No swing, but some bite.

The footwork was non existent from Masood. You either need to be forward or back.
This is why Kumar Dharmasena is a Test umpire and I'm not. It's pitched outside leg stump, in the end by a reasonable distance. Jake Ball, though, is already making things happen.
Pak 0-0
No inside edge...

I think he is absolutely gone.
Pak 0-0
Second ball! Jake Ball to Shan Masood! Not out, but this is very close. Alastair Cook persuaded to take another look...

That was not great footwork from Hafeez.
He was caught in no-man's land and that was perilously close to the stumps.

Hafeez did well to survive the first over there.
He could have been out twice.
There's early nibble from Broad, nipping one back to beat Hafeez, who is about half an hour late. So close to the off stump, only missing by a coat of varnish. Definite tinge of green, ball carrying through nicely. Jake Ball, ready to take the new ball at the other end, gets loose at fine leg. Very good start from Broad, movement off the surface.
The players are out under clear blue sky and warm sunshine. All whites perfectly pressed, an army of ice-cream men. Stuart Broad is at the end of his run, Mohammad Hafeez is scratching at his guard. Shan Masood is at the other end. Three slips. Play.

I have got goosebumps, it is brilliant.
What an atmosphere.
The MCC members, clones of each other, are sitting in front of the pavilion, all bright ties and beige chinos. In the cheap(er) seats, one chap pops a champagne cork that lands on the outfield. If that was a beach ball, he'd be asked to leave.

You have got to take every incident in isolation.
Amir was 18-years-old and making his way in cricket.
The outcome is right and I am really excited to see him here. He is a talent.

I'd have kept Joe Root at four.
Why not just say to Vince you are going to be our number three?
I am one that thinks there is no real point in changing it if it is going well.

TomNormington: Got my Hobnobs, got TMS on. I'm ready for the cricket. I'm not at work though... Honest.
Do let me know what you're up to today - how you are celebrating the return of Test cricket? A sneaky look at your phone at the back of double maths? Live text minimised on your desktop at work? Maybe you're out and about, or even at Lord's - send me a picture and I might show it to the world.

I wouldn’t be disheartened by losing the toss, the statistics say that you want to bat but there is a tinge of green.
