I think this is a different variety of delivery from Yasir. It was the quicker ball, the slider. England have got to find a way, a method of keeping the pad away. If they're not using the feet, they should be steady enough and look to play with the bat.

Finn lbw Yasir 5 (Eng 276-9)

Out. Just out. Steven Finn stuck on the crease, Yasir Shah skidding the ball on, hit on the back leg, stone dead. The umpire could give that with his eyes shut. Yasir has six and England are staring at a reasonable deficit.

Funnily enough, Finn will probably have more clue against Wahab than he does against the leggie. A clip off the toes for a couple is enough to anger Wahab - leg gully comes in and Finn cops a couple of bumpers. Still, the Watford Wall is happy enough to hook a single, pinching the strike. If you missed Wahab castling Broad, here it is...

Finn's rather in the sin-bin as a bowler. But maybe he can make up for it with the bat.

Sloppy from Pakistan, Finn edging an easy single to give Woakes the strike he craves. Expect the Warwickshire man to be busy here - he might not fancy Finn and Ball against Yasir. A paddle sweep for two, a cut stopped at point, but no pinching a single. Finn must take on Wahab.

Rachel T: Excellent. The Watford Wall is in!

Naveed Afzal: The most notable difference between these two sides is that England can bat down to number 11. Pakistan have no real tail.

After being softened up, Broad opened his body, moving his front foot to expose his stumps. Bit of reverse from Wahab, the ball hit Broad's pad before clattering into the base of the timbers. Steven Finn the new man - debutant Jake Ball coming in at jack.

Stuart knew it was coming. But he knew there wasn't a lot he could do about it. Wahab bowled like that in the UAE as well.

It was either going to be short or yorkers for Broad. And I could see him shrugging his shoulders thinking not a lot I can do about that.

    Broad b Wahab 17 (Eng 260-8)

That is how you bowl to Stuart Broad. The pacy Wahab Riaz pushes him back with a couple of bumpers, gets one yorker slightly awry, but doesn't miss with the second. Broad, moving backwards, leaves his stumps exposed and has his furniture rearranged. Pakistan strike, opening an end.

Crowd very noisy, the humming soundtrack louder than at any point in the match. Yasir gets his first look at Broad but is too leggy to the left-hander, allowing an easy single. When Woakes cuts, Shan Masood makes a good stop at point. Rare fielding excellence from the tourists.

My cricketing Saturday is a Broad Ballance of activities. First, I Woakes up, then Moeen the lawn, being careful not to damage the blades on a Root or Ball hidden in the grass, and certainly not to run over a passing Bairstow. Then Hales to the neighbour to conVince him to come over and Cook us his special shark's Finn soup. All in a day's work!

Misbah is fuming here. Pakistan have a fielder at third man for Broad, expecting him to flash at Wahab. When he does, aerially, the balls falls short of the man down there. Misbah, looking every inch the general with his cap, shades and beard, is wondering why he is so close to the boundary edge. Could have been a chance.

He's flying along isn't he Yasir? Eighty-odd wickets in 13 Tests. Easy game at the moment.

  17. Eng 258-7published at 11:07

Yasir Shah, looking more like Lionel Messi with every passing day, to begin from the Pavilion End. The slope takes the ball into the pads of right-hander Woakes, Yasir hoping to turn it against the gradient. Yasir on the money, nice loop, Woakes straight-batted in defence.

It was a bit of Stuart Broad of old. That's the way they've got to play if they want to reduce this deficit.

  19. Eng 258-7 (trail by 81)published at 11:03

Crowd seems lively, yet more rapturous applause when Woakes nudges the first run of the day. Men go back on the hook for Broad - bumpers? It might be long before Wahab tests the middle of the pitch, especially with Broad driving on the up through the covers. Shot, lad.

Yasir's was one of those spells as a spin bowler that you love. It's not spun much. He just got the batsman playing the wrong way. They're going to have to get a method.
