Woakes has been on a different level. Finn has improved. If you're coming tomorrow you'll see a good day's cricket.

  2. Close of play - Pak 214-8published at 18:30

That is time. The end of another brilliant day, one that Pakistan have probably shaded. I say probably, because Chris Woakes' late intervention has given the home side a glimmer of hope. Pakistan lead by 281 runs. Tomorrow will be an absolute humdinger.

  3. Pak 214-8published at 18:29

Woakes is tormenting Amir outside the off stump. Seam movement, variable bounce. Problem is, England are going to have to bat on this. Last ball coming up? Time for one more over?

  5. Pak 214-8published at 18:27

Boos for Mohammad Amir, the loudest we've heard in the match. There might even be some cries of "cheat". Rowdy crowd. This could well be the last over of the day...

It hit the glove first. There's still life in this old dog of a day. It's been a tremendous day of cricket.

    Wahab c Bairstow b Woakes 0 (Pak 214-8)

He has! A short ball, Wahab Riaz ducks into it, gloving the ball to Jonny Bairstow. Woakes has 11 in the match, five in this innings. He currently has the second best match figures of any England bowler in this decade.

Another? Has Woakes done it again?

Elgan Evan Alderman: I can't remember life before Chris Woakes.

Jack Mendel: The prospect of having Woakes and Stokes in the same side, both firing, is mouthwatering.

Adam Wheeler: Brilliant effort from Woakes. Just shows what hard work and a decent attitude can achieve.

  10. Pak 214-7 (Yasir 30, Wahab 0)published at 18:23

England have broken the partnership and now would dearly love another before the close. Yasir needs some running repairs on his bat, much to the frustration of the crowd. Shot! Yasir gets down on one knee to club Finn to mid-wicket for four. This is his highest Test score. Good time to get it.

Chris Woakes' 10-fer is the second time since 1978 that an England bowler has taken 10 in a match at Lord's.

Sarfraz played a few shots when he came in. But well bowled Woakes, 10-fer at Lord's, don't get much better than that. It's given England another half a chance.

  13. Ten wickets for Chris Woakespublished at 18:17

    Pak 208-7

Chris Woakes hadn't got a Test five-fer before this game, now he's got 10 in the match. He's only the third England seamer this decade, after Broad and Anderson, to manage a 10-fer. It's a remarkable rise from bit-part to dependable from the Warwickshire man. Wahab Riaz is the new man.

Cometh the hour cometh the man. England were in disarray, and Woakes strikes. What a performance from him.

    Sarfraz c Bairstow b Woakes 45 (Pak 208-7)

This time! Jonny Bairstow snaffles Sarfraz Ahmed and Chris Woakes strikes yet again to give England a wicket just before it's too late. First over of a new spell for Woakes, line and length, very thing edge from the prodding Sarfraz. Huge boost before the close.

From Pakistan's point of view they are taking the game brick by brick away from England. You've got to congratulate them.

  17. Pak 207-6 (Sarfraz 45, Yasir 23)published at 18:11

Yet more bad luck for Finn as Sarfraz inside edges past the stumps. The tall bowler in on his haunches, head in hands. "What have I done to deserve this?" The crowd continue to will him on, but Sarfraz, like when Homer Simpson tried his hand at boxing, is taking every single punch.

Greg: Do we have any international class wicket keepers in the county game? Not really had one for many years.

ThreeLionWhip: Steven Finn has broken a mirror, stepped on a crack or walked under a ladder!

  19. Pak 205-6 (lead by 272)published at 18:08

England will have the second new ball available to them in the morning, but it might be too late by then. Broad strives for the breakthrough that is now looking overdue at around the same time his mate James Anderson takes a wicket for Lancashire against Durham. Nothing doing. I thought this Pakistan tail was flaky?

That dropped catch just knocked the wind out of England. They've kept themselves hanging in, and that was the perfect opportunity. They could have run through the last few wickets. The last thing you need in this situation is a spinner comes in and knocks you around for 20 or 30.
