    Broad b Amir 1 (Eng 196-8)

Bowled him! Stuart Broad's stumps are splattered by Mohammad Amir and England are on the brink. It's a familiar dismissal for Broad, a pacy yorker in at the toes, slight movement away perhaps in readiness for the short ball. England are on the brink here, 87 more runs is a helluva lot.

  2. Eng 196-7 (Yasir 29-9-64-3)published at 17:40

The contrast in the emotions there is incredible. Yasir was sprinting in celebration, Imran Tahir-style. Bairstow bent over on his bat, almost in tears. On any other day, he'd have belted that into the stand. His caution may have been his undoing. Stuart Broad, what have you got for us?

Well Pakistan needed it and they got it. Jonny's played wonderfully well and out of character. It says a lot about his mental strength, to knuckle down and not play his natural game. It's given England a little bit of hope and chance. He's played remarkably well.

He tried to work that through the leg side. It just turned a little bit. He played it right across the spin. The way he just... well, he knew. He's given England hope.

    Bairstow b Yasir 48 (Eng 195-7)

This is absolutely devastating for Jonny Bairstow. After batting with so much patience for more than three hours, he has drowned in honey. It's a short ball from Yasir Shah, nothing more than a long hop. Bairstow tries to work it, but inexplicably misses. He can't believe it, barely able to drag himself away. Absolutely distraught. Yasir is mobbed, all to the huge cheers of the Pakistan fans inside Lord's. Massive moment.

Watching carefully in this match, Amir has been the least difficult bowler to play. He doesn't move the ball that much.

  7. Eng 195-6 (Bairstow 48, Woakes 19)published at 17:34

When do England become favourites for this match? Amir, who hasn't looked too dangerous since he replaced Wahab, gets too leggy and gives away four leg byes off Woakes' backside. Over the wicket, round the wicket, back over. Ball not doing a great deal.

Following this from Heathrow on a delayed Hong Kong bound flight. Only time I've been happy with a late take off. Come on England.

The sun dips behind a cloud as Yasir make Bairstow wait for that half-century. Defend on the front foot, defend on the back foot, leave, beaten by a ripping leg-break. How are you feeling? Tense? Nervous? Have you not moved in the past hour because a partnership is in progress? Let me know.

It's been a really fantastic sporting event this. Wonderful venue, beautiful afternoon. What more could you ask for?

  11. Eng 191-6 (92 required)published at 17:26

Reasons to applaud coming thick and fast now. The fifty partnership, a brilliant stop by Shan Masood from a Woakes drive, Henry Blofeld's trousers. Off the field, Wahab is stretching, helped by the physio. That sort of movement would maim a normal man. He's knotted up like a pretzel.

Just thinking about some of the England dismissals earlier in the day. Imagine what could have been achieved with the application shown by this lot.

Adam Hawker: If Bairstow and Woakes do this, forget Man of the Match, Woakes deserves a sainthood.

I didn't play in the DRS era, and I'd like to know how the batsman would feel. He gets another life, does it give him confidence, or does it shrink his confidence?

Drinks taken at HQ, a member in an egg and bacon blazer wandering around Lord's offering scotch to all those who need their nerves calmed. I'm pretty sure I've just seen one England fan with some Rosary Beads.

It was straighter and quicker from Yasir Shah, and almost getting the better of Woakes.

Huge inside edge! Lord's erupts when the replay is shown on the big screen. Just a little reminder that this game can turn in a heartbeat. Incredible drama.

Oh no! Yasir bowls a beautiful leg-break which slams into Chris Woakes' front pad. The finger goes up. It's reviewed.

He might have hit it, you know.
