My word, Pakistan where exactly are you going after this? Do you need an early exit? Sharjeel took the visitors to 53 with that lucky shot earlier, but nothing lucky about the four after that and just nothing simple about the massive six that he landed into the crowd. It was so fast and big, the nice people in that point stand were in danger of having their beer glasses disturbed. Luckily, it lands a tier below that.

Rob Zabrocky: Pakistan bowl varied pace, varied length. England bang in hard half trackers. Rethink required.

  3. Pak 53-0published at 4.3 overs

Close! Ben Stokes is the other bowling change, and it nearly brings a wicket. Sharjeel slashes at a good length ball but it takes the inside edge and whizzes away close to his stumps. In the end, it's a four. When it's not your day...

It is a good wicket. Pakistan are hitting through the line. This is classy batting.

These two batsmen are having a competition on who can hit a slog shot better. Latif mirrors Sharjeel's loopy pull to the fine leg rope. Liam Plunkett was the bowling change for England and like his predecessors bowls a short one. There's comedy after that as Plunkett strays wide down the leg side and even keeper Buttler was surprised, missing the take and allowing four wides. Sharjeel rubs some salt into all those wounds with a sweet cover drive for... yep, you guessed it, four.

I'm not sure I've ever seen an international ground so full that portaloos were required. During the interval, queues for the bar and food stalls were so long that some 40 or 50 people were still waiting when the first ball of the Pakistan innings was bowled. No matter, the cheers tell you that the boundary is being peppered.

So far, 10 dots and eight fours from the 18 balls bowled.

Willey's bowling with a look of 'not sure about this, but we'll see what happens'. Sharjeel shows he can pull just as well as Latif for a four to deep square leg. Willey then tries a yorker length. Can Sharjeel flick it away for boundary number eight? Survey says, yes.

Mark Savile: Pakistan 1/7 of the way there after 10 balls... enough said.

Matthew Darwin: Does anyone else feel that T20 is just all round bad cricket? Bowlers have no chance, batsmen just slog. Boring.

PitchedOutsideLeg: Unless England quickly play the match rather than the atmosphere, their bowling will mirror their batting.

Add two more fours to that tally. Chris Jordan has taken an absolute beating in his first over. Latif is happier than a tiger in a rabbit pen, as he cracks another one through the off side that sat up so easily for him from Jordan. England's bowling coach Otis Gibson gives a little shake of the head in the dressing room. Extra warm-down laps for Chris after this?

That is more boundaries in Pakistan's first eight balls than England managed in their last 14 overs.

  12. Pak 16-0published at 1.3 overs

    Target 136

Brutal hitting from Pakistan. Chris Jordan runs in for England and drops it short but Latif hooks one to fine leg where Alex Hales gives chase in vain. Latif then punches the ball through cover for another four. Those fire pipe thingies will run out of fuel at this rate. All of Pakistan's runs have come through fours.

  14. Pak 8-0published at 1 over

Pakistan do what England couldn't - hit fours in the first over. Left-armer David Willey tries a short one and left-handed Sharjeel twirls and pulls, it loops high and over the keeper for four. Willey then strays well wide of off stump and Sharjeel looks almost surprised at creaming this one through the point/extra-cover area for four.

Both teams back out now. My gosh that's a quick turnaround. Anyway. Sharjeel, recently recruited for Leicestershire, and Khalid Latif come to the middle. David Willey to bowl the first over.

    Play!

Eoin Morgan was the sixth wicket to fall for England, trying one of his typical guided shots towards third man, but in this instance it only went into the hands of wicketkeeper Sarfraz.

More from Andrew Strauss: "I’ve tried to remember the process I went through after the Mumbai bombings. I reached a decision that I thought was the right thing to do but that didn’t happen overnight. It took some time. In hindsight it looks like the simplest decision to make but at the time it is very difficult. There is a lot of emotion around. For some of these guys it is probably the first time they have thought about their safety and security in any shape or form. It is a process and that is why it is right we give them time to go through that."

It was prime time for Ben Stokes, on his return to the England T20 side since the World T20 final, to go on the assault. But he too found himself stunted thanks to some effective Pakistan bowling. Eventually, an attempted slog proved his end.

More from director of England cricket Andrew Strauss: "He (Eoin Morgan) has had concerns and he has discussed those with me. It is an interesting situation with the captain questioning whether to go or not. All I will say is that people view a captain differently because they have different responsibilities. But they are still humans at the end of the day and still have to go through that whole process on an individual basis. When I speak to him on the 9th I’ll be clear as to what his views are and we can move on from there."
