    Hood: Morne MorKelly Holmes

Mick Warne: When Worcestershire 'keeper Ben Cox isn't playing are they the Coxless Pears?

Rhys Williams: Former South African cricketer, Sunette Viljoen, won a silver in the women's javelin at Rio! Surely in an Olympics XI for that?

  2. Yorkshire rebuild at Scarboroughpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

    Yorkshire 130-6 v Nottinghamshire

If you're wondering why I haven't brought you any updates from Scarborough, it's because Nottinghamshire's onslaught has been blunted since the lunch break.

Azeem Rafiq and Andy Hodd have put on 82 for the seventh wicket so far, helping Yorkshire edge towards respectability in their first innings.

  3. Warwickshire make inroadspublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

    Durham 85-4 v Warwickshire

    Clive Eakin
    BBC Coventry & Warwickshire Sport

"Two more wickets since lunch have kept Warwickshire's bowlers interested on a track which doesn't look easy to bat on.

"It's a slow pitch but there has been movement off the seam and the occasional eccentric bounce.

"Durham have punished the bad ball well and they may feel if they can battle their way close to 250 they'll have a competitive total on the board."

  4. Division Two round-uppublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

    Leicestershire 132-3 v Essex

    Essex CricketImage source, Rex Features

Essex make a crucial breakthrough against Leicestershire, ending Angus Robson and Mark Cosgrove's 129-run stand when Robson drags Graham Napier's delivery onto his stumps.

Galmorgan are six down at home to Sussex, but Graham Wagg has brought up his half-century by smashing David Wiese for three fours in an over.

Gloucestershire have yet to lose a wicket after lunch, but they're scoring very slowly with the score 95-4 against Kent.

  5. Northants back to work after T20 winpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

    Northamptonshire 128-4 v Worcestershire

    Alex Winter
    BBC Radio Northampton sport

"The champagne bottles have dried out and Northamptonshire have to readjust to normal life and the County Championship. The day was going quite well for them having lost the toss with a stand of 64 between Alex Wakely and Rob Keogh, but two wickets since lunch tilts the scoreboard back in the hosts' favour in what appear to be fairly batting-friendly conditions.

"It a glorious day, sun beating down and glinting off the Cathedral looking majestic beside the river Severn. Less so the hotel on the corner of the ground.

"It's Ray Julian's 80th birthday today too and the former Leicestershire wicketkeeper and umpire is sitting by a row of balloons enjoying a fine day."

  7. Surrey on top against Lancspublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

    Lancashire 99-5 v Surrey

Two more wickets fall at the Oval, one apiece for Tom and Sam Curran.

First, Tom has Liam Livingstone caught behind for 37, before Ben Foakes snaffles another catch behind the stumps when Sam finds Steven Croft's edge.

  8. Spinners enjoy conditions at Hantspublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

    Hampshire 108-4 v Somerset

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent

"As was predicted at the start of play, the ball is turning for the spinners.

"Will Smith and James Vince were out bowled to deliveries that pitched on the stumps and hit the top of the off stump.

"Not every ball is turning which makes the job of batting even harder.

"I'm not sure what the difference is starting on a pitch that is very green and watching the ball go sideways in the first hour, or as we have seen here, the odd ball turning square inside the first 60 minutes."

  9. wicket

    WICKET Peterson (b S Curran 17)published at 13:59 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

    Lancashire 89-3 v Surrey

Another wicket to tell you about in Division One, this time from the Oval where Lancashire's Alviro Petersen has been bowled by Surrey seamer Sam Curran.

In Division Two, Northamptonshire have also lost their third wicket, Alex Wakely caught behind off Ed Barnard.

There is some good news for the batsmen around the grounds - Mark Cosgrove has become the first man to reach 50 today, helping Leicestershire progress to 107-2 against Essex.

Mr Payney: Nick (through to the ‘keeper) Skelton

    CJ: Aravinda de silver

    David Kirkham: Quinton de Shuttle-Kock

I'm not sure how handy gold medallist showjumper Nick Skelton is with a bat, but it's a very good shout nonetheless.

Before we can get to those Olympics suggestions, I have news of the first wicket of the afternoon to bring you.

Durham have lost their third wicket after being put in to bat by Warwickshire, Scott Borthwick edging Rikki Clarke behind to Tim Ambrose.

  12. Welcome backpublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

The teams are starting to take the field for the afternoon session, so welcome back to our live text coverage of the County Championship.

Don't forget I'm still looking for suggestions for a cricket Olympics-themed XI using #bbccricket. There's a few crackers on the way in just a couple of minutes' time...

  13. Viljoen impresses for Kentpublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

    Gloucestershire 84-4 v Kent - lunch

    Bob Hunt
    BBC Radio Gloucestershire

"An all-too-familiar poor first morning for Gloucestershire.

"Chris Dent chased a wide one and played on and Will Tavare attempted to pull a ball of a full length .

"Hardus Viljoen has been impressive on his Kent debut and his reward was the plumb wicket of Michael Klinger, but Gareth Roderick was unlucky, lbw to a ball that kept low suggesting that life might not be that easy for batting.

Perhaps 250 may be a decent total."

  14. Wakely & Keogh steady Northantspublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

    Northamptonshire 91-2 v Worcestershire - lunch

    Kalika Mehta
    BBC Sport

"It has been Northants' morning at a gloriously sunny New Road after they were put in to bat by Worcestershire.

"The newly-crowned T20 Blast champions lost Rob Newton early as Charlie Morris took an excellent catch when the batsman was squared up by a short ball from Ed Barnard.

"Ben Duckett departed shortly after, having made a sublime 26, he was caught at extra cover off Joe Leach.

"Worcestershire raced through their overs, bowling an impressive 34 in the first session of play, but Northants captain Alex Wakely and Rob Keogh batted serenely with little alarm as the away side avoided further damage before lunch."

  15. Lunch breakpublished at 13:16 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

With that, I'm going to take a short break for lunch, but I'll be back to bring you all the action from the second session at about 13:40.

Please keep sending your cricket Olympics XI suggestions in to #bbccricket. I'll pick some of the best as soon as I'm back.

  16. Elsewhere in Division Twopublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

Northamptonshire have had the best start to the day with the bat, reaching the interval on 91-2 thanks to a 62-run stand between Alex Wakely and Rob Keogh.

Second-placed Leicestershire are 84-2 against Division Two leaders Essex, while Gloucestershire 84-4 after a solid showing from Kent's bowlers.

  17. Barker gives Durham tough morningpublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

    Durham 59-2 v Warwickshire - lunch

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

"It's been a hard morning for Durham after Warwickshire chose to put them in on a muggy and grey morning in Chester-le-Street.

"Keith Barker failed to take a wicket when the sides met in May, which was completely out of character for him against Durham, but he soon made up for it today as he bowled Mark Stoneman for three in the ninth over and had Keaton Jennings caught in the slips by Varun Chopra for 21.

"That takes Barker's haul against Durham to 51 wickets in first-class matches since 2012."

  18. Sussex seamers cash in at Cardiffpublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

    Glamorgan 87-5 v Sussex

BBC Wales' Nick Webb in Cardiff:

"Sussex made the most of Luke Wright's decision to bowl as their seamers blew away Glamorgan's top order, finding the edge regularly on a pitch with a green tinge apart from the shaven ends.

"Nick Selman was bowled by Steve Magoffin for his fourth consecutive duck following a maiden century, while captain Jacques Rudolph gloved a hook off Jofra Archer to keeper Ben Brown.

"David Lloyd hit his first ball for six but became the first of three slip catch victims as he edged David Wiese on 14, with Chris Nash knocking the ball up to Danny Briggs.

"Will Bragg also fell for 14, giving Magoffin his second wicket, and Wiese grabbed his second as Craig Meschede edged to Briggs.

"Following an innings win over Gloucestershire, Sussex have certainly retained their outside chance of staying in the Championship chase."

  19. That's lunchpublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

    Yorkshire 97-6 v Nottinghamshire

Mixed fortunes for the bottom two sides in Division One, with Nottinghamshire tearing apart Yorkshire's batting line-up at Scarborough, but Hampshire struggling to deal with Somerset's spinners at the Ageas Bowl.

Durham will be content to only be two down against Warwickshire after being put in to bat, while Lancashire head to the dressing room on 79-2 against Surrey.

  20. wicket

Roelof van de MerweImage source, Rex Features

Spin does the trick once again for Somerset, Roelof van de Merwe trapping Adam Wheater lbw just before the lunch interval.

The visitors' two spinners, van de Merwe and Jack Leach, have combined figures of 3-55 in the first session.
