    MIddlesex 23-1 v Yorkshire

Ryan Sidebottom is still struggling to find his lines at Lord's The 38-year-old is sending plenty down the leg side.

Nick Gubbins meanwhile is still looking very composed with a third boundary off Jack Brooks' previous over - another super cover drive.

  2. The relegation battlepublished at 10:51 British Summer Time 20 September 2016

    Warwickshire 17-1 v Lancashire

Jonathan Trott is now at the crease for Warwickshire after the fourth-ball dismissal of Ian Westwood.

Down at the Ageas Bowl, where Hampshire realistically need to win to stay up, they've moved to 14-0 with Jimmy Adams and Will Smith batting.

  3. Postpublished at 10:49 British Summer Time 20 September 2016

    Middlesex 16-1 v Yorkshire

Middlesex opener Nick Gubbins looks in some touch. The left-hander clips Ryan Sidebottom for the easiest of fours off his hips and goes past 1,200 runs for the season in the process.

Sidebottom hasn't quite found his lines yet.

WICKET Robson (lbw b Brooks) 0published at 10:42 British Summer Time 20 September 2016

    Middlesex 11-1 v Yorkshire

Yep, it's definitely a bowling morning. The skiddy, headband-wearing warrior Jack Brooks gets one to just nip back into Sam Robson and traps him bang in front.

Robson goes for a duck - his fourth of the season.

Nick Compton replaces him in the middle.

  5. Steady Somersetpublished at 10:42 British Summer Time 20 September 2016

    Somerset 4-0 v Notts

No alarms for Somerset at Taunton so far. The bespectacled Marcus Trescothick and his junior partner Tom Abell at the crease.

  6. Postpublished at 10:37 British Summer Time 20 September 2016

    Middlesex 8-0 v Yorkshire

Jack Brooks finds some early swing, with one beating Nick Gubbins and through wicketkeeper Andy Hodd down to the boundary for byes.

Gubbins then gets off the mark with a beautiful cover drive for four. I wouldn't fancy batting in these conditions - it's murky, cool and swingy - if that's a word?!

  7. wicket

WICKET Westwood (lbw b Bailey) 0published at 10:36 British Summer Time 20 September 2016

    Warwickshire 0-1 v Lancashire

Warwickshire lose a wicket to the fourth ball of the day at Edgbaston - Tom Bailey pinning Ian Westwood lbw.

Good start for the visitors in this relegation battle.

    Middlesex 0-0 v Yorkshire

Ryan Sidebottom gets proceedings under way at a very empty Lord's, bowling to Sam Robson. Come on folks - this could be the Championship decider!

  9. 'Great advert for county cricket'published at 10:28 British Summer Time 20 September 2016

    Middlesex v Yorkshire (10:30 BST)

Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie has described the decisive final week of the County Championship season as a "great advert" for county cricket.

I couldn't have put it better myself Jason! The players are out at a very gloomy Lord's and are beginning to make their way into the middle elsewhere. We're all set to go...

    County Championship - final week

I'm afraid Division Two can't quite live up to the excitement of its big brother Division One this week.

Essex are already champions and have sealed the one promotion spot, while winless Derbyshire are guaranteed to finish bottom.

Maybe someone will beat Brian Lara's 501* or take 10 wickets in 10 balls to liven things up?!

  12. The permutations (relegation)published at 10:20 British Summer Time 20 September 2016

The relegation battle is also a three-way split between Hampshire, Warwickshire and Lancashire.

Hampshire are in the greatest danger of going down, with Lancashire needing 11 points to be certain of staying up and Warwickshire requiring 17.

If Warwickshire lose at Edgbaston, a Hampshire victory against Durham would keep them up - no matter how many points they take.

There are too many permutations to go into - but I'll try and keep you best updated as the matches unfold!

Or, for the mathematicians among you - the table is here.

So, how's it all going to unfold over the next few days. I have no idea! But here's what could happen...

Quite simply, if Middlesex beat Yorkshire, Middlesex are champions for the first time in 23 years.

If Yorkshire win at Lord's, they will win the title as long as they at least match the number of points Somerset take.

If Middlesex and Yorkshire draw, then Somerset will win the title if they beat already-relegated Nottinghamshire with at least 23 points.

There are a few other permutations which you can read about in this handy preview by clicking here.

  20. New pretenders to the thronepublished at 10:00 British Summer Time 20 September 2016

    County Championship - final week

    Jack BrooksImage source, Getty Images

In 2015, as the County Championship entered its final week, Yorkshire's players were already sipping on Yorkshire tea and tucking into their 'Parkin' with the title in the bag.

However, this year things are different. There are new pretenders to the throne.

Middlesex, without a title since 1993, and Somerset, still to be crowned County Champions in their history, want a piece of the glory.

What better than a nice showdown at Lord's and a sprinkling of action from Taunton to decide who takes home the trophy.

Welcome to our live text commentary of the final week.
