  1. Eng 49-3published at 18 overs

Suddenly, West Indies' tails are most definitely up. Lauren Winfield looks on from the non-striker's end, having lost three batting partners so far - including two this over. Dottin strays with a legside wide, but has three wickets to her name after four overs.

  2. Eng 47-3published at 17.4 overs

Natalie Sciver survives the hat-trick ball, steering it into the covers... And breathe.

  3. Postpublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 8 October 2016

England coach Ali Maiden on TMS: "It was a wide ball and a bit of a loose shot for the first ball of her innings. Heather would have preferred to have left that, unfortunately."

    Knight c Aguilleira b Dottin 0 (Eng 47-3)

First ball! England captain Heather Knight's stay at the crease is brief as she feathers an edge through to the wicketkeeper from the first ball she faces. Dottin is on a hat-trick...

  5. Postpublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 8 October 2016

England coach Ali Maiden on TMS: "It really kept low. You've almost got to accept that and laugh at it - you can only hope you escape the one that's got your name on it."

  6. wicket

    Elwiss b Dottin 5 (Eng 47-2)

Oh, that kept low... Georgia Elwiss can't keep out a full delivery from Dottin and the Windies converge as she celebrates her second wicket of the day.

  7. Postpublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 8 October 2016

England coach Ali Maiden on TMS: "We feel 180 is going to be a total we can defend. We were spolied in the summer against Pakistan with brilliant wickets and fast outfields. This is more old school. These two can spend time at the wicket and set it up for the likes of Danni Wyatt and Katherine Brunt to go mad at the end."

  9. drinks break

    Drinks breakpublished at 17 overs

    Eng 47-1

Fletcher spins down her fourth over, she's quickly through it and the players have earned some drinks.

There's a veritable flood of activity - a three-man team repaints the crease at one end, another man sweeps away some dust at the other end, a golf buggy whizzes on to give the fielders some drinks and a couple of England non-combatants - is that Jenny Gunn? - bring a towel apiece for the batters.

  10. Eng 45-1published at 16 overs

Dottin nearly has a second wicket as Winfield tries to get her bat down on a yorker and there's a sustained lbw appeal but the umpire is unmoved. England are busy at the crease, plundering ones and twos when they can, while Dottin also sends down a wide which Aguilleira has to take in front of the solitary slip.

And by the sound of it, there are a few well-oiled England fans in the stadium. (When I say "well-oiled", I'm not referring to sun cream).

  11. Coach's viewpublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 8 October 2016

England coach Ali Maiden on TMS: "It's not easy so we'd settle for having lost one wicket and got some stability. We're reasonably happy and it's about trying to eke a score, something that's going to be competitive, maybe 180."

  12. Eng 39-1published at 15 overs

Winfield is moving up through the gears, pushing Fletcher for two.

And TMS are joined by their first guest summariser of the day - Ali Maiden from England's coaching staff. (He's a bit out of breath after climbing the stairs to the TMS box - which rather gives away that he's NOT the strength and conditioning coach).

  14. Eng 35-1published at 14 overs

Georgia Elwiss is in at number three for England - her first ball is fired down the leg side by Dottin, and the England pair scurry back for two leg byes.

Tammy was trying to get one over the top but she came across it and it went straight up. She'll be disappointed with that - she can dig in.

It was one of those catches that looks comfortable but running back, it can be hard to take.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 13.3 overs

    Beaumont c Campbelle b Dottin 8 (Eng 32-1)

Dottin strikes! It's a tame end for Beaumont, as she spoons a catch to the cover fielder Shemaine Campbelle on the edge of the circle.

  17. Eng 30-0published at 13 overs

Afy Fletcher, who's either been masquerading as an off-spinner for the first eight years of her international career or has switched to leg-spin at the age of 29, gives it plenty of air - even more so with a full toss which Winfield chips through mid-wicket for one.

Dottin is very awkward, she ambles in but with her action she can get it through. As a batter, you know she has the ability to get it around your head.

  19. Eng 29-0 (Winfield 16, Beaumont 8)published at 12 overs

Deandra Dottin to bowl some slingy right-arm medium pace from what our man Stephan Shemilt on TMS has christened "the Sea End" - and she has Beaumont playing and missing. A wide advances the score - then Beaumont is completely foxed by a ball which gets a bit of lift and whistles through to the keeper. She goes out to prod the offending area - but Dottin is asking plenty of questions here as keeper and slip appeal for lbw - though Dottin herself doesn't seem convinced.

  20. Eng 28-0published at 11 overs

A helmet is brought on for keeper Merissa Aguilleira as we're going to see some spin for the first time. We can expect plenty of spin today - but the first to have a go is Afy Fletcher, who's normally an off-spinner but seems to be bowling leg-spin!

If it's an attempt to deceive Tammy Beaumont, it works for a little while before she dabs a single to short fine leg. (And I'm convinced the scoreboard at the ground has consistently been two runs behind for most of this innings).
