Somerset all-rounder Peter Trego on moving into TV presenting: "I've always been a very social cricketer, mainly down to if there was a free pint of cider on offer, I'd be there.

"I did a lot of stage speaking during my benefit season. Two or three months into my benefit, a TV channel on Sky gave me the opportunity to do some presenting. I've landed into it by fluke.

"But it's given me a huge amount of personal confidence. As a cricketer, you spend a lot of time being pessimistic about what you're going to do when you finish playing. Things have knitted together nicely."

Somerset all-rounder Peter Trego on becoming a TV presenter: "The opportunity to show off into my 30s and 40s is now there.

"I'm very much someone who comes alive when I get that arm round the shoulder or pat on the back. Now a global TV company has validated me as a person, as a character, all of a sudden I don't feel like I'm fighting for my life any more on the cricket pitch. I can really start to enjoy my cricket - and it's no fluke that my biggest batting year has come after my first year in the media."

Bairstow played very nicely. He's very keen to hit spinners out of the park, but reined it in. He was playing the delivery that bowled him straight enough - it's happened to him before. Other than that, it was splendid morning for England.

They're certainly not hanging around in Christchurch. A four-day win appears to be on the cards for New Zealand against Pakistan in the opening Test, despite the first day being lost to rain.

Although they bowled the Kiwis out for 200 - limiting them to a 67-run first-innings lead - Pakistan slipped to 129-7 by the close of day three.

That leaves them a mere 62 in front, although Sohail Khan's unbeaten 22 off 18 balls from number nine suggests he has not given up hope just yet.

I'm not saying England will save this game, but they have more hope. The old ball on this pitch is not unplayable. However, India will have the new ball after lunch. 300 is a best-case scenario for England from here, but they would still be 150 behind.

It's been a superb morning. Test cricket like that is fantastic, a wonderful game. Cut and thrust, character and mental strength. Stokes in particular has never looked in trouble. I'm proud he had the nous control his natural game in order to play the situation.

So, Jonny Bairstow proved that tripping over his feet this morning wasn't too much of a bad omen for England. He and Ben Stokes played cleverly, putting on 110 runs with some careful batting. His wicket, yorked by Umesh Yadav for 53, just before lunch will have taken the gloss off the morning session. Stokes is still there on 55 but there’s still a long way to go for the visitors.

    Stokes 55, Rashid 1, trail by 264

Umesh Yadav is sticking with the old ball. Three close catchers for Rashid. Everyone's got an opinion for him. He handles it well though, turning a low ball along the floor towards short leg. Umesh follows up with some short stuff that Rashid works off his hip. And that, everyone, will be lunch.

The way Bairstow and Stokes played was terrific, to intersperse defence and attack in the situation England were in, they deserve full marks.

The crowd are up. The new ball is available in the next over. It's down to Stokes to shepherd Rashid through and get to lunch unscathed. Jadeja races through his over, the field up to keep Stokes on strike. So Umesh will have another crack at Rashid.

Now, it's opened up an end with the new ball due soon. The spinners, with a hard new ball, will be able to attack the opposite end to Stokes.

Ooh, Adil Rashid's done well there. He's got a low one first up and the fielders are in disbelief that he's managed to whack the bat down on that. The next one rises up and Rashid defends it down, shakily, and Stokes comes meandering down for a word of advice.

It was a terrific delivery. He went slightly wide of the crease and got it in there very quickly. Jonny has got out before like that. When he gets a yorker, instead of digging it out, he looks to work it to the leg side. He ends up playing almost with only the edge of the bat.

    Bairstow b Umesh 53 (Eng 190-6)

Got him! Stump in the air! Umesh spears in a yorker, Bairstow tries to work it away and it goes into the pad, onto the stump and it cannons into his leg stump. The stump goes spiraling out of the ground as Umesh takes off to greet his teammates.

Jadeja gets through another over quickly, with Bairstow coming forward to get rid of any turn. The way these two have played this morning shows how badly England batted last night. The odd one has kept low but there hasn't been any dramatic turn from the spinners.

I picked up my gorgeous new daughter from hospital yesterday, Ivy Woodnott-Miller. As she is my first born, this is my first taste of sleepless nights, she gets her appetite from me unfortunately. Not wishing to blow my own trumpet but is it possible her Mother and I have given birth to England's newest lucky mascot? Daddy and daughter are loving the fightback. At least I think she is - it could be wind.
