Bit more of that awkward bounce from Umesh that strikes Bairstow on the glove, before he potters down to prod at the pitch. Another delivery sneaks low, forcing Bairstow to defend with the toe of his bat, before Umesh returns to worrying the off stump.

Once people get in, it's hard to get them out on slow turners. Getting in is the problem time. I thought Kohli made a mistake by bowling Umesh first thing this morning.

Jadeja continues as India's lone spinner, and sends down an awful short ball that has to have slipped out of the hand. Bairstow gives Jadeja a helping hand in forgetting that delivery by smacking it away for a single. The bowler has the last laugh as he beats Stokes with a nice one that turns.

Like Stokes, Bairstow has also registered his slowest half-century in Test cricket. This one was 137 balls, slower than the 111 in Chittagong.

Yadav makes way for Yadav, as seamer Umesh replaces spinner Jayant. He keeps Stokes in check outside off stump, before a shorter delivery is helped away to the boundary from a healthy outside edge. Umesh goes back to his off stump theory, and Stokes gets back to defending.

Both of them have been very good. Bairstow is batting better now than earlier, when he wasn't moving his left foot forward. Stokes has been good throughout - he's reined in his attacking game.

Jadeja tries his best to get the ball changed, but the umpires are having none of it and it's handed back to the bowler to get on with things. Bairstow then drives to the boundary to bring up his 12th Test fifty, and the hundred partnership for good measure.

Bairstow, not to be outdone, reverse sweeps Jayant but it takes the toe end of the bat and spoons away into the covers. He has a cursory prod of the pitch before meeting with Stokes for a fist bump.

Jadeja asks for an lbw against Bairstow, who goes back to a straight one, but there's nothing doing. Bairstow subtly lifts his bat to point out that yes, I did hit that one, thank you. Jadeja ups the speed a little but Bairstow sticks to his policy of defence.

Stokes has been so good to anything short. Jayant misses his mark and Stokes rocks back to cut that again to the boundary. Jayant follows that up with one that turns and beats Stokes' outside edge.

Jadeja gets through a maiden, aiming for the rough that's built up by Bairstow's off stump. He's not getting anything out of the England batsman though, who defends throughout.

Bairstow has got ahead of himself there, a little loose after playing those two powerful strokes.

Ashwin will take a breather after an underwhelming morning by his standards. He's been replaced by Jayant Yadav, who is greeted by Bairstow absolutely leathering a sweep to the boundary. Short leg did well to get out of the way. That's not so clever from Bairstow, trying to clip Jayant off his pads and nearly spooning a catch up to Virat Kohli. The ball hit the turf before Kohli could snaffle it up.

Shot from Stokes, onto the back foot to cut another short ball from Jadeja down to the boundary. It was a decent over up until then, Jadeja keeping the batsmen on the defensive, but that got the full Stokes treatment.

Ravichandran Ashwin will continue and Stokes and Bairstow nick a couple of singles. Ashwin keeps tempting Stokes outside the off stump, and Stokes keeps on blocking them.
