Another low one from Broad brings ooh's and aah's from the fielders, but Pujara gets the toe end of his bat down in time. Ben Stokes, meanwhile, pulls off an Olympic quality dive to cut off a boundary from Pujara and, crucially, keep him on nought.

  3. Ind 28-2published at 12 overs

Rashid tosses one up and strikes Kohli on the pad, but it's pitched well outside leg. Bairstow is yelling encouragement down the stump mic, but quietens down as Kohli slams a four through the off side. That was stupidly good from the captain, a bottom-handed thwack that went racing away.

Graham of Brockworth: This is shocking decision-making from umpires yet again. Dharmasena has been very poor for 4 games and the last 2 from Tucker???

  5. Ind 23-2published at 11 overs

    Lead by 223

I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting this. Broad sends down a beauty that bounces over the top of Kohli's stumps and has Broad down on his knees, head in hands, face bright red from effort. Kohli raises a perfectly manicured eyebrow at him, before unfurling a delicious cover drive that flies to the boundary.

    Rahul c Bairstow b Broad 10 (Ind 17-2)

Stuart Broad knows. Never question him. Rahul was playing away from his body and got a feather of an edge through to the keeper. Bairstow wasn't at all convinced that he'd got a nick on that, but Broad was right. Here comes the captain, Virat Kohli.

Stuart Broad is utterly convinced he's got KL Rahul caught behind. Jonny Bairstow's not, but Broad gets his way and Cook reviews.

The door is slightly ajar. The lead is huge but you've got to stay in the game as long as possible.

Rashid is getting some gentle spin, but this is still a very good pitch. Right up until England come to bat again, at which point it turns into a raging turner. Cook's set the field very deep for Rashid, which means Rahul can jog off strike for a single.

That was Stuart Broad's 363rd Test wicket, taking him into 18th on the all-time list. He has just gone above Imran Khan and Daniel Vettori.

  12. Ind 16-1published at 9 overs

That wicket seems to have helped Broad's limp out. He's not exactly moving with ease but he looks better than he was before. He tests new man Cheteshwar Pujara out with some off stump stuff, all of which Pujara negotiates easily.

    Vijay c Root b Broad 3 (Ind 16-1)

Out! There's a big inside edge on the replay. Good from Broad, getting Vijay defending awkawrdly, and Root dived forward at gully to take the catch. Vijay has a little grumble to the umpire as he walks off.

Now then. Has Broad got the breakthrough? Vijay might have been caught in the gully, and Cook's made the T-sign.

Help! Is anyone listening to TMS going to India before the end of the year, perhaps to watch the series? A couple of years ago I had to cancel a holiday at the last minute due to illness and I was left with £180 in rupees that are now worthless unless I can find someone going to India who could exchange them. I live in Petersfield in Hampshire and work in Chichester in case anyone going is local. Thanks.

    Rahul 9, Vijay 3

Adil Rashid has been thrown the ball for what you'd imagine will be a lengthy spell. First up is short and KL Rahul leans back and cuts it gloriously for four through backward point. Ben Duckett then ends up sprawling, face first into the boundary rope as he chases a paddle sweep from Rahul.

When Broad gets going he's OK, but when he's walking there's a hobble.

  19. Ind 8-0published at 7 overs

    Lead by 208

Stuart Broad, hobbling significantly less than he was before the break, will get things going. He's getting a bit of bounce out of the pitch and peppers Murali Vijay with a series of short stuff, all of which he ducks under. Broad glares at him, then ruins the image slightly as he hops back to his mark.

There will be no draw in this Test. There are seven sessions left. England have to bowl India out in a session and a half and then get 320 for a win. That is the only hope.
