  1. Eng 77-1published at 53 overs

    Root 2, Cook 47

Root spoons a low ball from Ashwin into the air, and there's a momentary panic as short leg starts to back pedal, but it drops safely into the turf. He's then off the mark with two, as busy as ever at the crease. Just a little over 20 minutes for England to block their way through.

  3. Eng 75-1published at 52 overs

Every thing that strikes Cook's pad now is accompanied with a yelp from the fielders. The light is starting to fade, shadows from the stands slowly creeping onto the wicket. Cook and Root will just grit their teeth and see this through to the close.

Haseeb's innings, which spanned 188 minutes, is the eighth longest by a teenager in the fourth innings of a Test.

    Target 405

What an innings from Hameed. It took a shooter to get rid of him and he didn't have a chance of keeping that one out. Not that it stopped him trudging away from the wicket like the saddest looking puppy you've ever seen. Hawkeye confirms it would have been clattering into the stumps.

We've been talking for two days that someone would eventually get a low ball and there's nothing you can do about it. How India needed this. It's Hameed on the logo on the bottom of the pad. There's nothing you can do about that. It's an unbelievable innings for a 19-year-old.

Hameed lbw Ashwin 25 (Eng 75-1)

Out. So horribly, so clearly, so very out. Ashwin gets that low one to creep through, beat Hameed's defences and hit him on the pad. He's walking off to a standing ovation from the dressing room but Hameed is absolutely gutted.

It would be a miracle if England get these runs, their mindset is just to block.

  9. Eng 75-0published at 50 overs

Joe Root doesn't look to have shifted from his seat in the dressing room. Cricketers are a superstitious lot. Jadeja gets down on one knee, pleading with Dharmasena to give Hameed out lbw, but that looked like bat first.

Hameed's 19! He shouldnt be doing this as a 19-year-old! It's been tough out there. This pair has to see England through to the close.

  12. Eng 73-0published at 49 overs

    Cook 46, Hameed 24

Hameed is in Umpire Tucker's bad books. He thwacks Ashwin back down the track and it looks like a certain four, until Tucker's foot gets in the way. He goes hopping off to recover and Hameed, who charitably apologised for hitting him, gets back to blocking.

Jadeja's just lot a bit of fizz that he had before that review. Cook negotiates an over with ease, just smothering the spin and getting the bat to anything that stays low. Kohli, at slip, is still brooding.

  15. Eng 73-0published at 47 overs

    Cook 46, Hameed 24

India have lost both their reviews in six balls, and Kohli tops it off by misfielding and allowing Cook a run. He'll be in a cracking mood.

Virat Kohli can't believe his eyes. He's stomping off into the covers. He has lost both his reviews in the space of two overs. He's an angry man.

That's hit the pad first, although the umpire had no chance of seeing that. This looks bad for Cook, but no! Umpire's call on impact! Oh, Kohli is utterly fuming. We're talking hands on hips, head shaking, full pout time here.

It might be umpire Tucker's turn to get a mouthful.

  20. India reviewpublished at 46.4 overs

Two reviews in two overs. Ashwin is convinced he's got Cook lbw. Cook's turned his back on him and taken a walk away to square leg. Kohli decides to go upstairs again.
