That's it from us for today. We'll be back tomorrow, bright and early at 03:45 BST, to talk you through whatever England can muster with the bat.

Jonny Bairstow on Haseeb Hameed: "As far as I'm aware he will be able to bat tomorrow. I've not had chance to catch up with him. But he went for a bat. As far as I'm aware he's alright."

  3. 'The record is a very special achievement'published at 11:32 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2016

Jonny Bairstow, who now has a record 68 Test dismissals in a calendar year: "There was a lot of speculation a year ago about whether or not I should be keeping wicket, so to put the hard work in and have that come to fruition is a very special achievement for myself.

"It's still not anywhere near where I want my keeping to be and I'm not under any illusions. You look at yourself and you have two options: you hide in a corner or you front up and take it on the chin. Thankfully I took the latter option and it's starting to pay off."

  4. 'We're fighting an uphill battle'published at 11:31 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2016

England's Jonny Bairstow, who has made 89 & 15 with the bat, speaking on Sky Sports: "Not the day we were looking for. Losing myself and Ben at the end capped off a day that we didn't envisage at the start of the day. We're fighting an uphill battle at the moment.

"It's still a decent batting wicket. There were a few balls they kept out that kept low and they did a few things with the ball as well. We need to take it on the chin. We still have a lot of batting to come and we have to remember that."

Rob Meech: Moeen Ali is not a top-six batsman, nor is he a frontline spinner. So why is he in the side?

  6. 'Moeen has to change the way he plays'published at 11:27 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2016

It's impossible to keep going out there playing strokes. Very rarely do the really, really good players hit the ball in the air because they don't need to. Just hit the ball on the ground because the outfield is so fast.

If you're going to bat in the way that Moeen Ali plays, you can be a six, seven, eight. If he has ambitions to bat in the top four, he will have to change the way he plays. England are under pressure and you're demanding that your top order occupy the crease.

Matthew Connell: Maybe it's time Ramps was given another chance to fulfill his undeniable talent!

Matt Hewlett: England's batting shambolic yet again. What on earth is going on behind the scenes?

Moeen Ali danced down with one intention - to hit the ball in the air. Ashwin saw him and changed his pace a little bit. It was beautiful bowling, a pathetic shot.

  10. 'We're looking to pile on the pressure'published at 11:19 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2016

Jayant Yadav, who made his maiden Test fifty, on Sky Sports: "It was a really proud moment. Jadeja took the pressure away from me. We took it one ball at a time.

"The idea was to bowl more in the stumps and it came off. We've got four good wickets today and looking to pile on the pressure tomorrow.

"The best thing about his team is that they didn't make me feel like I was playing for the first time. I didn't feel out of place in the dressing room."

  11. 'India are a better team'published at 11:15 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2016

England have won a toss here and they haven't made it count. They missed a great chance in the first innings with the bat.

This match is certainly going to go India's way, barring a Joe Root double century. But he needs help. Let's face it, in these conditions, on these style of wickets, India are a better team.

Hoist up the white flag now! Surely England are done? The most predictable outcome since the last time England played...

England need to find some mental toughness. Plenty of talent in this team.

  13. 'Gulf in class between sides'published at 11:11 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2016

    Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

England are losing for two reasons: the batting in the first innings, when they were 150 light, and also allowing the tail of India to wag.

It was an indication that on these wickets, England don't ever look like they are going to blow a team away; they are waiting for mistakes. The gulf in class between these sides came through.

It's a chastening day for England. India dominated without being very forceful. They got those runs on the board and then caused quite a bit of torment.

It has been emphatically India's day. They look so much more potent than England did this morning. Most of the damage was done by Ashwin with the bat yesterday, and then he has taken three wickets today. He is beguiling.

That's it for today. Take one look at Joe Root as he walks off, bat under his arm, head down, thoroughly miserable look on his face, and that sums up where England are in this game.

England have sent Gareth Batty out as nightwatchman, which is a thankless job at the best of times. Now he's got four men around the bat to contend with, although I would like to see an angry-off between Kohli and Batty. Ashwin welcomes him to the crease with the carrom ball and Batty wisely chooses not to edge it.
