Moeen, the number three, has been up and down. He's probably being mopped down. The third umpire is probably being mopped down by the fourth umpire and the man who runs the technology is probably mopping down his machine.

  2. Eng 23-0published at 11 overs

    Cook 9, Root 13

Jadeja finds himself bowling to Root and the over passes without incident. Which must be a relief for the third umpire. It's staying low but Root looks more secure against Jadeja than Cook, using his bat to smother any turn.

Cook has a brief word with himself and blocks away the rest of Ashwin's over. What a couple of minutes for the England captain there.

Cook needs to get his head together and start using his bat.

  5. Cook not outpublished at 9.3 overs

Pitching outside leg! Which, I should point out, my colleague Stephan immediately pointed out. Kohli looks like a child who has had their favourite toy taken away from him.

This is more ominous, partly because the umpire has given this one out.

    Eng 23-0

Now Cook has been given out! Cook wanders down the pitch and consults with Root before making the T sign. Ashwin looks confident as India huddle.

Cook got forward and it turned, but he is susceptible to Jadeja. That's a big moment, because England are top heavy with their batting. They have played their trump cards early.

  10. Cook not outpublished at 9 overs

    Eng 22-0

Kohli has a look of pure annoyance on his face. And it's not out! After all that, it's missing Cook's leg stump. A thoroughly unpleasant two minutes for the England captain.

This is taking an absolute age. India are all huddled around Jadeja, Cook's leaning on his bat while Jonny Bairstow, up in the dressing room, looks anxiously at the TV. I'm not sure what's taking so long but it's prolonging everyone's agony.

That's out. It's well worth a review. It might just be umpire's call on impact.

  14. India reviewpublished at 8.5 overs

Hello. This looks like a good lbw shout against Cook - has Jadeja got him? Umpire Erasmus says no, but Kohli reviews it.

  15. Eng 21-0published at 8 overs

    Cook 9, Root 11

The odd ball is keeping low but, as it was when England were bowling, there's not much doing. Kohli has taken on chief shiner duties, working hard on the ball as Ashwin drops short and Cook works the ball away for a couple.

Spin from both ends now as Jadeja, fresh from his 90 with the bat, gives the ball a twirl. Batting hasn't tired him out as he gets through another over in quick time. Not great from Root, going back to a full ball that he manages to throw his bat on in time. A strangled lbw yelp ends the over. Ominous.

Joe Root has got to get his tempo right. In the first innings he was too frantic. He's got to set his stall out to play a long innings here. England can't afford to gift India any wickets, like they did the first innings.

  19. Eng 19-0published at 6 overs

A slip and a short leg for Ashwin, who is targeting Root and Cook's front pad. Root gets an outside edge that runs away to safety while Cook leans on his bat at the non-striker's, watching another plane soar above the ground. England have roughly 30 overs to see through tonight.
