Jennings brought all the left handers elegance into the drive. Everything about it was right. He's been impressive, this young man.

Jennings' Test career passes the 50-ball mark. He'll have learned more in that time than most of last season. He's come through his initial examination well. In fact it is he now asking questions of Kumar. He puts all his weight in to an extra-cover drive and finds the gap for four before pulling a poor lose ball for another boundary.

Jennings has fielders for company - a slip, leg slip and a man at short leg. He is not intimidated, though, adding a single to the one his skipper scored to hand him responsibility from the first ball of Ashwin's over. Say it quietly, but this is a good start from England.

This ground is where the turnaround started for England a few years back when Cook got a hundred and Kevin Pietersen made 180. That's the kind of innings Cook needs to play to get England back into the series.

Kohli sticks with Kumar for a seventh over but his effectiveness is diminishing. The Indian fielders don't help him, though, as a poor throw gifts England a second run when only one was there for the taking.

The early morning mist has evaporated and the sun is belting down in Mumbai. Ashwin has a concerted go at Jennings, but the young opener proves equal to the spinner, playing back a maiden.

Kumar continues but there is the sense now that England have acclimatised to his seam. Jennings gets underneath a pull to leg and brings himself three runs. Cook ends the over with a neat on drive down the ground for four. The England skipper now has 2,000 Test runs against India.

Cook is looking comfortable. In the previous two matches he looked tentative in his movements but not today. He's settled down very nicely, along with the young man.

This is a constant exam for Cook with Ashwin the moderator. The spinner has had the England skipper's number so far this series so you can understand him being very, very watchful. He is clearly trying to be more positive, though. Even his defensive shots are being played with utter certainty.

Arjun Sohanpal: Nervy start from Jennings, but let's hope England can do a bit better this time.

Have England, and Jennings in particular, weathered the initial storm from the home side? There is no room for complacency, but he looks to be warming to this task. He brings himself another couple with a nice steer to leg off Kumar.

Before this series, Cook had been dismissed four times by Ashwin and averaged 52 against him. In this series he's been dismissed by him three times.

The first over of spin comes, unsurprisingly, from Mr Ravichandran Ashwin. Two left-handers at the crease, just as the big man likes it. He finds turn straight away, but England manage him well. Cook even gets out an early sweep. Positive.

I don't think you should lose your review when just one of them is umpire's call. The good thing for England is that India have lost one of their reviews, which is so important.
