It was nice bowling from Moeen. We've all said this pitch has slow turn, so slow that it won't get you out unless it's a poor shot. Parthiv was trying to hit against turn. It was tiredness, he's been out there a long time.

Rashid has immediately looked the most likely for England but although there is some turn he cannot find that extra special ingredient. Don't worry, the wicket alert app is not broken, but it just may not be used for a while.

With a day of positive batting, India could be level by lunch tomorrow. If they pushed on from there, they could put England under pressure on the last day.

Steady from Moeen, just a single to Parthiv, but no cigar. There's a novel approach from the India crowd. We have a lady adorned in green body paint, a man painted up in orange and - presumably - their baby son in the middle in white, to complete the colours of the national flag. The little chap looks incensed by what they have made him do.

A slip for Rashid, and Jennings under the lid at short-leg, who restricts the scoring to one run when his shin takes some pace of Parthiv's flick of the wrists, a human shield rather than a catcher.

This is the highest opening partnership for India against England in India. The previous best was Sunil Gavaskar and Farokh Engineer in 1973. India have had three higher opening partnerships against England in England.

Rahul in command here, although a full toss from Moeen should never cause him problems, he puts it away in style with a reverse sweep to the boundary.

It's encouraging for England that they have a bowler in Rashid who is getting some deviation off the surface. He has hit a length straight away, now he has to get his line right.

The mercurial Rashid and immediately more threat, with some genuine turn and bounce. 'Lovely start' Bairstow exudes from behind the bails. There is a confident lbw appeal against Parthiv but the wicketkeeper admits he couldn't see, Stokes opines it was heading down the leg side and no review is decided upon. The final ball is then over pitched and driven fluently through the covers by Parthiv for his sixth four. 

Not much air from Moeen and he is comfortably farmed for singles by both batsmen. He takes his white sun hat and has a rueful rub of the beard.

Just captain Cook at slip and vice-captain Root at short extra cover close to the bat as Ball plugs away enthusiastically again. He took a wicket on his Test debut against Pakistan last summer and one in the last Test at Mumbai. No sign of one here yet. For any England bowler.

There's been some excitement in the Women's Big Bash League today - Hobart Hurricanes, captained by England skipper Heather Knight, beat Melbourne Renegades (for whom Danielle Wyatt made 35) off the last ball of a Super Over, external after the sides were level after 20 overs.

Melbourne Stars' fans voted England spinner Danielle Hazell as their player of the match for a miserly 2-15 from four overs in their seven-wicket win, external over Sydney Sixers.

However, England duo Katherine Brunt and Becky Grundy finished on the losing side as Perth Scorchers were beaten by eight wickets, external by Brisbane Heat.

The men's Big Bash League starts on Tuesday.
