So India close 86 behind with Karun and Vijay well set to resume tomorrow and six wickets intact. Can they gain a significant lead and put England under pressure, or will the tourists skittle them out, press on and set a challenging target? Stokes got a good wicket against Pujara, I think he was under-bowled. Nine overs? He's better than that. He skids it on and draws people wide into playing it when they don't want to, and he did exactly that to Pujara. But if India get a 150 lead, we've got a serious problem. They could be 20-30 ahead by lunch, but are they good enough to bat until after tea?

There were some good moments by England in the field - the Broad wicket, when he went round the wicket to Kohli, he's still a very fine bowler and he earned that wicket. Cook swapped the bowling around, the new lad [Dawson] did all right - I thought he did well when he bowled over the wicket into the rough.

Rashid did what he always does - sneak a wicket from nowhere. Rahul was in the comfort zone, he'd seen the same bowlers for the last 40-45 minutes, Rashid tossed one up outside off stump and that's what happens sometimes when you try something out of the comfort zone - we batsmen do something daft.

The big question for me - will India get a big enough lead to squeeze England, I'm not sure they will. The pitch is in the batsmen's favour, but it's not the sort of pitch you can crash-bang-wallop. England can hold their heads up high, the only blemish was Cook's drop at slip, which wasn't an easy chance.

What an innings that was from KL Rahul, just one short of a maiden double century and shots all round the ground.

Unless England have a very good first session tomorrow morning, they're going to be transported back to a Mumbai-ish situation. The pitch is still blameless, but you sense it is still possible for India to score another 200-250 runs, with Ashwin and Jadeja to come.

If any team is going to win this game, it's India, unless England have an astonishing start. They've often struggled to get wickets on good pitches, their spin attack is nowhere near as good as India's, and even now, you're not even safe with 477 in the first innings.

So, 88 overs bowled today and India have rattled up 331 for the loss of four wickets, despite England being able to dismiss run machines Pujara and Kohli for a combined 31.

Two boundaries for Vijay is the answer, a neat little leg glance and a cover drive through the cap in the covers created when Root is moved to leg gully. That is your lot for today and India close 86 behind, with Karun on an impressive 71 and Vijay 17.

Vijay can see this one from Moeen ok though. He dances down the track and swipes it away, not a stroke of aesthetic beauty but there is enough bat on it and it trickles away to the square leg boundary to reduce England's lead below three figures.

Vijay's done it again, driving Rashid for a single out to deep cover for a single to keep the bowling. England look to bring on Stokes but are told it is too dark and it has to be spin only.

Adil Rashid's 23 wickets equals the highest number for England in a series by a leg-spinner.

Vijay's away, he pinches the bowling with a single off Moeen's final delivery. There are six scheduled overs remaining but only 11 minutes.

A nice little gesture there, as Rahul was out - just before he walked off, Ben Stokes went over to shake his hand.

David Dodd: Desperate for us to get a wicket, but gutted for Rahul there. What an awful ball to get out to 1 short of 200. 

It looked close but the impact was outside the line of off stump and it was umpire's call for stumps. Good quicker ball from Rashid though to Vijay, who had an injury and batted lower down the order. He's batting in a cap which is rather delightful throwback to the old days of batsmanship. An a sparkly gold earring, which is rather less so. 

England have asked for another review as Murali Vijay is pinned lbw by a googly first ball. the 'soft decision' is not out though.
