That did turn. De Kock tried to run it down, following the turn and he got a feather of an edge. That's a big wicket at a good time.

    De Kock c Buttler b Moeen 98 (SA 211-4)

Huge! Moeen Ali sends down a slower delivery that turns and feathers the outside edge of Quinton de Kock, with Jos Buttler taking a sharp chance behind the stumps.

No 13th ODI century for De Kock, who'd played beautifully for his 98. The keeper looks absolutely crestfallen as he trudges off at the Ageas Bowl.

England look rejuvenated. Has the balance swung once more?

  3. SA 210-3published at 35.4 overs

Miller and De Kock exchange singles before the former gets in a big stride to sweep Moeen away for four.

We've got a good game here. The departure of De Villiers has lifted England. Morgan still has some juggling to do.

SA need 127 runs to win off 90 balls

Ok a bit of a break and plenty for England to talk about as they plan how to stop South Africa cruising to this target.

Quinton de Kock will resume on 97, but it's David Miller on strike for the time being. Moeen Ali to bowl.

  6. SA 204-3published at 35 overs

England's quicks have looked better and De Kock worse when they've gone short. There seems to be more value for shorter deliveries in this pitch, with batsman on both sides having struggled at times against them.

Liam Plunkett goes full instead, David Miller untroubled until he edges a decent length ball just short of Joe Root at slip.

  7. SA 199-3published at 34 overs

Moeen Ali now, a decent first five balls.

But the last is clobbered back past him by De Kock.

He's been subdued for the last few overs but the South Africa opener moves to 96 off 100 balls.

Morgan said before the match that he doesn't mind his bowlers chasing wickets. They have freedom. If England wanted one of the two, they wanted De Villiers. De Kock has struggled for 20 minutes.

  9. SA 191-3published at 33 overs

David Miller joins Quinton de Kock at the crease and gets off the mark on the final ball of an excellent over from Liam Plunkett.

A superbly well-directed bouncer to cause a batsman of De Villiers' calibre all manner of problems. More of that needed for England. South Africa need 140 runs to win.

That's fire, venom and intelligence. It just flicked the glove and carried to Buttler. You have to give the fast bowlers credit. It's a critical wicket.

AB de Villiers c Buttler b Plunkett 52 (SA 189-3)

Out of nowhere! Just as AB de Villiers looked to be reaching his imperious best, he's suddenly on his way back to the pavilion.

Liam Plunkett delivers a rapid short ball that De Villiers cannot decide what to do with.

The South Africa captain elects too late to try and get out of the way but only succeeds in gloving it through to Jos Buttler behind the stumps.

Superb fire from Plunkett to make a massive breakthrough.

50 for De Villierspublished at 32 overs

    SA 187-2

And that's a 53rd half-century in ODIs for AB de Villiers.

The South Africa captain dabs a single into the leg side to reach the mark off just 48 balls.

An expert innings in support of De Kock at first, before De Villiers started to open up and play all around the wicket in superb fashion.

  13. SA 183-2published at 31.2 overs

Beautiful shot from AB de Villiers, swinging Jake Ball away through midwicket for four.

It wasn't even that short, just superb vision and timing.

    ABDV moves to 49...

  14. SA need 153 runs to winpublished at 31 overs

Eoin Morgan elects to save Mark Wood's final three overs for later on as Liam Plunkett returns.

Good, solid stuff as the Proteas can only add four to the total.

England still struggling to come up with a way of forcing a wicket.

  16. SA 174-2published at 30 overs

De Kock 85, De Villiers 41

This is better from Jake Ball, firing in a few deliveries that beat the bat.

Just two off the over. England need wickets though. And soon.

You can tell South Africa are ahead, because there's a pretty feeble attempt a a Mexican wave going around the ground.

  18. SA 172-2published at 29 overs

    Wood 7-0-29-0

Mark Wood is bowling well - accurate and at a fair old pace.

He's only gone for a touch over four runs per over so far.

De Kock and De Villiers just don't look like getting out though.

A woeful Mexican wave attempt starts and someone shouts "boring!" Is that directed at the fans that won't join in or the state of this game?

It's been plain sailing for South Africa for a little while. If England don't take wickets, South Africa will cruise.

  20. SA need 164 runs to winpublished at 28 overs

Eoin Morgan has seen quite enough spin for the time being as Jake Ball is also recalled to the attack.

Time to give De Kock and De Villiers the hurry up.

Trouble is, with that added pace, anything short or wide can be flashed to the boundary, which De Villiers duly does to Ball.

The Nottinghamshire man then strays way down leg side for a wide. An inauspicious return.
