At the moment it's still doing a bit for Philander, perhaps not as much as yesterday but it's still in the pitch.
Philander 15-6-25-2
Philander, who began yesterday's bowling spell with some outstanding economy, has two slips and a gully in for Cook. Still a few spectators taking their seats for the day - those that do watch a probing over from the Bellville-born right-arm seamer, who completes a maiden over and then trots off the field. Let's hope he doesn't still have a poorly tummy from yesterday.

Jonathan Trott was an on-side favouring number three. He didn't get on too badly. Would like to see Tom Westley given time in that position. Looked more convincing than Gary Ballance through his innings.

It would be interesting to talk to Alastair, hopefully he will make his hundred, but where he rates it amongst his hundreds. I thought he played marvellously yesterday because it was doing it, nipping it and swinging.
Cook 88, Stokes 26
Cook was an expert at "the leave" yesterday, not being bothered by anything outside off stump. Happy to wait for one to hit, he guides it to the cover boundary - the square boundaries are rather wide at The Oval, if you know the ground - and they have time to run three.
India continue to dominate the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, despite the players currently being off the field because of rain.
They bowled out Sri Lanka for 291, earning a first-innings lead of 309, despite an unbeaten 92 from Dilruwan Perera.
Virat Kohli decided not to enforce the follow-on and his side are 56-2 in their second dig.
The full scorecard for that match is here.

England won't mind this sunshine coming out to get rid of some of that juice in the pitch.
Eng 179-4
Philander finds Cook's outside edge - it's well taken by skipper Faf du Plessis at second slip, but bounces just in front of his hands. Cook jams his bat down and earns a single backward of square leg, not a completely fluent stroke but he's up to 85 from 188 balls. And when Philander strays onto leg stump, Cook's fellow left-hander Stokes firmly clips it through the leg side for four.
And sharing a birthday with Jim Maxwell, is one of the greatest cricketers of all time...

Tom Westley looks the real deal to me. Too much emphasis has been put on his slightly closed bat face. He got a very good ball in his first ever Test match and looked at ease before then. Finally, a decent number three.

61 overs
The tall and strapping Stokes rakes his crease feverishly as the even taller Morne Morkel marks out his run at the Pavilion End. While Tuffers on TMS remains astounded at the length of Morkel's legs (and there's a brief digression on the size of the ears of the late actor Nicholas Smith,, external who played Mr Rumbold in Are You Being Served?), it's a maiden over.

England would love it if these two could make it to the new ball, it's a crucial little 20 over spell.

Cook 84, Stokes 22
Vernon Philander, who only bowled 12 overs yesterday as he was suffering with an upset stomach, charges in from the Vauxhall End and finds Alastair Cook resuming his stern-faced occupation of the crease. A typical Cook shot to open his account, as a whip off his legs brings him two to seep square leg.
(And so Ben Stokes doesn't feel left out, here's one of his boundaries from yesterday).
Anyway, the umpires are out and we're nearly ready to go. Sit back, turn up TMS on your wireless (or headphones if you're at work or on public transport!) and let us take you through the day with the aid of our in-play highlights clips.

Given the weather forecast, why on earth could they not start play at 10:30 today?
Paul Gunning
It's just not the done thing in the UK. Australia sometimes like to start at a weird time like 10:39 if they're making up time.
Alec Stewart
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special
When the sun is out and it's not close - which it isn't at the moment - it's a good pitch to bat on. As the game goes on, spin can play a part. Subject to the weather.
