    BBC Test Match Special

James Anderson speaking to Test Match Special: "It's an amazing win, we played really well through the game. We had some tough patches to get through. Bairstow's innings was crucial and Moeen in the second innings played brilliantly well, then finished it off with his bowling today.

"I'd like to say we were calm on the field today but the way the game has gone we knew it only takes one wicket and then you lose some in a cluster. We kept faith."

If Hameed gets a ton in the second innings at Hampshire, do England pick him for the West Indies series? I think so and maybe with Alex Hales in the middle order.

  3. County Championship update...published at 17:53 British Summer Time 7 August 2017

Over in the County Championship, Haseeb Hameed has just reached his half-century from 154 balls.

A player digging in and getting a score, could do a job at the top of the order for England.

  4. 'Brilliant Root'published at 17:51 British Summer Time 7 August 2017

England all-rounder Ben Stokes, speaking to Sky Sports: "Moeen Ali... what a series he has had. He has come on leaps and bounds as a cricketer. He bowled beautifully throughout the whole series."

England bowler Jimmy Anderson on winning the series at his home ground, where he has had a stand named in his honour: "It is amazing. We played really well this series. We had a slip up at Trent Bridge but generally we played good cricket.

"We showed where this team has come from and where we can go. We can still improve.

"Joe Root has done brilliantly since taking over as captain, he has taken to it like a duck to water and led us brilliantly."

Former England captain Nasser Hussain on Sky Sports says coaches should just let Moeen Ali go out and play, "a bit like with David Gower".

The smile on Gower's face when Hussain said that, beaming from one end of Old Trafford to the other.

    Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

England did well on day one, the batsmen applied themselves and hung in there. The breakthrough of Stokes gave South Africa some hope but when Bairstow took a grip on the second morning that was when it went in England's favour.

England have been very good indeed, batting first is the way they like to play. I like that there have been contributions from a lot of players. There are still questions at two and five.

David Beckett‏: Moeen has been brilliant, but sometimes a spinner's best friend is a good slip catcher, and Stokes is the best since Botham.

ashic: Impressive win for England. And a nice five wicket haul for Moeen at the end. Well deserved.

Rory Stoves‏: Moeen doing what all great spinners do, taking us to victory in the final innings. Surely a shoe in for man of the match!

Moeen is the only man in a four-Test series to make 250 runs and take at least 25 wickets. I think he is a very valuable member of the team. The interesting thing about this Test match is that Bairstow, Moeen and Stokes were firing.

Well played England, thoroughly deserved it against a fairly strong South African team, who are number two in the world. For me, Moeen takes man of the match and probably man of the series.

Start the coach, the bus, or even the plane! I think it's done. England deserve it, they have played well all summer apart from that hiccup at Trent Bridge. They have done very well.

    Morkel c Root b Moeen 0 (SA 202-9)

    Oh dear.

Morne Morkel lasts just one ball.

He tries to launch Moeen out of the ground, but it's a poor strike and finds Joe Root at mid on.

Looks like we are going home early. We were not thinking that at 16:00 BST, eh?

SA 202-8published at 17:32 British Summer Time 7 August 2017

Oof, what a shot. Maharaj skips down the track to Moeen and smashes one into the stand behind the England bowler's head.

That brings the 200 up for South Africa.

    Rabada c Westley b Anderson 2 (SA 195-8)

    Well taken.

Anderson pounds in again and Rabada attempts an expansive drive, but it's hard towards Tom Westley, who takes it smartly above his head.

    A good catch.

Maharaj nudges his head towards his right shoulder, as though to say, 'what a cracking ball that is'. Jimmy Anderson misses the edge of his bat by the width of a cigarette paper.

Team-mate Ben Stokes grimaces and ruffles his hair in frustration.

A few of you are asking why the England players are wearing black armbands. It's to remember former England and Essex cricketer and administrator Doug Insole who passed away yesterday. The crowd also paid their respects earlier.

    England need three wickets

Maharaj playing some nice shots here, he might as well.

The South African takes aim and cracks the ball back over Moeen Ali's head for four. Lovely stuff.
