Has anyone thought about whether Alex Hales WANTS to play Test cricket? I'd LOVE to see him given a licence like Warner/Sehweg and, while us spectators maybe dream of it, is the reality for a modern cricketer less appealing than crash, bang, wallop of limited overs? Dare I say some players might find it boring in comparison?

    England need three wickets

    Have some of that.

Short and wide from Anderson, fully taken advantage of by Maharaj, who smashes it to the boundary.

Anderson changes it up after that and aims a bouncer towards his opponent, but Maharaj ducks it well.

England have played three Test matches very well. I said at the start of the series that England were stronger and that's proved to be the case. They got out at Nottingham because of their own stupidity, or call it what you want.

Hales out for 218. Great stat on the Trent Bridge website: Hales has now scored a century across all three formats of the game in the last 38 days.

Maharaj smacks one straight back to bowler Moeen Ali, who dives to his right like Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to tip the ball onto the stumps.

    Howzat?

The TV umpire has a look, but Kagiso Rabada never left his crease.

    As you were.

Is Rabada at the non-striker's end out here??

For all of those in the 'Let's get Alex Hales in the Test team' brigade - he has been batting at number five for Nottinghamshire against Derbyshire. He has just been dismissed ... for ... 218 from 218 balls!

Kagiso Rabada is the next man in and negotiates the rest of the Anderson over nicely.

England closing in on victory, just three required.

Anderson drew him in wide, he didn't really need to play that but he got sucked in. Du Plessis played very nicely but 360 is just too many to get.

    Du Plessis c Bairstow b Anderson 61 (183-7)

    The end is nigh.

Faf du Plessis loses concentration after tea and is maybe a little overconfident...?

He tries to smack one towards deep extra cover, but gets it wrong and nicks it to Jonny Bairstow crouched behind the stumps instead.

Jimmy Anderson is off to celebrate, Du Plessis throws his bat in the air as he walks off.

Faf in my language means 'all over place'. He was on that occasion.

My man of the series? Well it won’t be England’s number two, three or five. I would have to go for Moeen – 23 wickets is a lot. Then Stokes and my third one would be Jonny Bairstow.

MoeenAlitharan, as someone has called him on Twitter, is back in the attack for England.

He will want to face Maharaj as much as he can, but the South African lower order batsman is equal to the task.

    Just one off the over.

It is not looking good for South Africa. It was South Africa's session until 15 minutes to go in the session, when Moeen Ali took three wickets to rip the middle order apart.

South Africa are facing a 3-1 series defeat.

How umpire Kumar Dharmasena did not see that on first viewing I will never know.

DRS was brought in to eradicate the howler, it has done just that on this occasion.
