  1. WI 288-4published at 93 overs

    Lead by 30

Oo-err. A nervy moment for Shai Hope as he gets a leading edge but it falls short of mid-off before he tucks one away to get off strike.

Stokes to Chase - a well-directed short ball but the new man dips his head in time. A solid forward defence to finish.

It's intriguing to see how West Indies play it from here. Can they really grind England into the ground? Can they get to 400 and have a lead of 150?

Here it is, England's first wicket since 11:37 this morning.

A brilliant knock from Kraigg Brathwaite finally comes to an end - an excellent delivery from Stuart Broad before the opener is given an appreciative ovation from the Headingley crowd.

  4. WI 287-4published at 92 overs

    S Hope 129, Chase 5

Chase joins the party - getting forward to drive imperiously through the covers for four.

Good sign that there's plenty of runs left in this Windies line-up. Broad clutching at the 'got him driving' straw.

This is excellent for England. A proper challenge for them to show what they are made of. They need this experience to learn how to fight their way out of a corner against a side who offers less than Australia.

Still no Anderson - granted he's less of a miss if Broad can get inspired by that wicket, but it seems strange to have your best bowler on the day bowl only two overs with the new ball.

Stokes it is, up against new man Chase. Tidy stuff - a maiden.

  7. WI 282-4published at 90 overs

Roston Chase is the new man, getting off the mark with a single to backward square leg.

Shai Hope is still there of course - he and Brathwaite put on 246 together, a magnificent feat.

The opener brought up both his 50 and his 100 with a six, remember. Baller.

Everyone is standing and applauding inside Headingley - that's an innings which could transform the tour for West Indies after the humiliation of Edgbaston. Brathwaite doesn't charm you with his batting but he's a fighter and he's put his side in control of this game.

That cut back sharply between bat and pad. Broad is furiously pleased.

    Brathwaite b Broad 134 (WI 281-4)

Well it's not a strange decision when Broad bowls like that - and in my defence he hadn't done much of this with the new ball so far.

It's a top delivery, jagging in off the seam and rearranging the stumps as Brathwaite could only prod at it.

A terrific innings from the opener, who is treated to warm applause and a standing ovation from the Headingley crowd.

He's played a blinder and put his team firmly on top in the game.

    Nope, Broad will continue.

A strange decision if Anderson hasn't picked up an injury...

  12. Rusty Woakespublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 26 August 2017

Fair to say Chris Woakes hasn't made best use of the new ball. First he was hit for back-to-back fours by Kraigg Brathwaite.

Then Shai Hope gave him the same treatment, including this 'superb' shot down the ground.

  13. WI 281-3published at 89 overs

Woakes is duly yanked from the attack after that dire last over as Stokes replaces him.

Anderson has bowled just 14 overs today - surely he's good for a few more? Perhaps he's coming on to replace Broad next up.

Hope gets a thick outside edge to the last ball but it drops short of Stoneman at point. Tidy enough from Stokes, who opens his spell with a maiden.

Root is looking around for bowlers a little now. Anderson has been his best bowler but you suspect he's done his work for the day.

This England team doesn't have a hope in the Ashes with three batsmen missing, no decent fast bowler and no quality spinner.

    Brathwaite 134, S Hope 128

First tired, loose shot from Brathwaite as he wafts at a wide one from Broad.

The Nottinghamshire quick is bowling a fuller length than he did this morning - unfortunately that's when conditions were best for bowling today.

Just a couple off the over.

England would be forgiven for taking on something stronger than water or [insert electrolyte drink of choice here].

They've toiled miserably since tea, while this Barbadian duo have racked up the runs in style.

A penny for Toby Roland-Jones' thoughts. He seems to be a magnanimous fella but this bowling from his replacement Chris Woakes would challenge even the kindest of dispositions.

First, he strays onto the pads and Hope clips it on the up through midwicket for four.

Next ball, Woakes strays too full and Hope bangs him down the ground to the fence.

A dot to finish but a woeful over from Woakes. Brilliant batting from Hope, mind.
