From the brilliant to the errrr..... comical?

Here's the Chris Gayle run-out. I think I could run faster than this...

Lewis is clearing the rope quite comfortably. It almost looked like he sliced it. He didn't get a lot of it - that shows his power.

    Lewis 47, Samuels 3

As James says, Marlon Samuels is the new batter, a man who has had a fair few battles against England. For now Evin Lewis is on strike as we see the leg-spin of Adil Rashid for the first time.

Lewis greets Rashid with the same shot he played off the seamers. A lofted cover drive for four. And now this one is even further. Full with a bit of flight from Rashid and Lewis plants the ball 10m further back.

This is a really important time in the game for England. Samuels will have a lot of dot balls at the start of his innings so England need to squeeze them for runs now.

  5. WI 80-1published at 7 overs

Chris Gayle looks frustrated as he is walks up to the dressing room, not much quicker than he took that single.

England will be relieved he is out. He was hitting the ball to all parts...

He does everything at his speed. He had no interest in going through the gears. He'd given up.

That's excellent bit of work from Jason Roy, Gayle didn't even make an effort. He was just cruising to the wicket, nonchalantly. It's poor cricket awareness because he didn't know the ball was coming to his end. That was so poor from Gayle.

Gayle run out (Roy) 40 (WI 77-1)

Chris Gayle can hit the ball out of any ground in the world but running is not his forte.

He knocks the ball to Jason Roy at backward point and is just trundling along to the non-striker's end. It's not in his make-up to sprint but he hardly makes an effort.

Good stop and throw from Roy but a direct hit wasn't even needed. Liam Plunkett just flicks the bails off with Gayle a yard short.

  9. WI 76-0published at 6.1 overs

Eoin Morgan will be grateful he can get some more of his fielders in the deep but he must be getting annoyed at his bowlers.

Liam Plunkett starts his first over on Evin Lewis' pads and the ball is flicked for four.

They took an over to get their eye in, then they went mental. It has been exceptional, extraordinary hitting from Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis.

    Gayle, 40 Lewis 31

Better from Curran. England have bowled too much in the slot so far which has helped this West Indian opening pair.

He bangs a couple in to Gayle and Lewis and the second half of the over is much more economical.

The powerplay ends. West Indies are going at 12 an over.

It's a good toss to lose for West Indies, judging by what we've seen so far.

    WI 71-0published at 5.3 overs

    Gayle 40, Lewis 30

And again!! For a minute Jonny Bairstow was in business on the mid-wicket boundary but the ball sails over his head. 6 4 6 to start Tom Curran's second over.

  14. WI 65-0published at 5.2 overs

Six again! Full from Curran and it's swatted straight back past the bowler. Curran goes full yet again and Lewis flicks it past backward square for four more. Fireworks.

So far Chris Gayle has delivered everything you expect of him.

This crunching blow was his second six...

That's gone miles and miles over the rope. It's so easy but again far too much pace and width offered by England and Gayle is just pouncing on it.

  17. 6 runs

    WI 55-0published at 5 overs

    Gayle 40, Lewis 14

Crikey. This is remarkable. The crowd gasp as the ball flies for six again. It is so simple from Gayle. No foot movement. The ground isn't big enough for him. He has 40 from 19.

  18. WI 45-0published at 4.3 overs

    Gayle 30, Lewis 14

Another change of bowling. Chris Jordan into the attack but you can't bowl there. A full toss outside off stump is dispatched to through the off side.

Not too much applause from the crowd. I think that's because they want to keep their hands in their pockets.

Curran was trying to be unpredictable with the first one that went for four, but it was just far too short and too wide.

All the pressure has been taken off Evin Lewis with the way Gayle is batting. When West Indies want to put their foot down, they do. They're exceptional at picking the ball.
