Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

I am mildly frustrated, from a West Indies perspective. He started to play for his 100 once he got to 92, 93.

    Powell c Woakes b Rashid 8 (WI 192-5)

Powell tries it again. He fails. There is height but no distance as Chris Woakes has all the time in the world to settle himself at long-on and take an easy grab. West Indies are up against it now.

  3. WI 192-4published at 29.3 overs

Stand and deliver. Pitched up from Rashid and Powell gets his bat right under it and sends it high and long for a six.

  4. WI 185-4published at 29 overs

    Mohammed 36, Powell 2

Spin from both ends as Moeen replaces Woakes. The off-spinner darts them in and concedes just the three singles.

Just looking at a replay of that Gayle run out, he took a slight hesitation towards the end of his run and was too focused on looking at the fielder rather than concentrating on getting to the other end.

Lallanarama: Hell of a run out from Rashid that. Or Rawhide as autocorrect tried to call him.

    Target 370

Rovman Powell is the new man in and it is Adil Rashid, fresh from his fielding success, who is brought into the attack. What a nice feeling, to come on for your first over just moments after Chris Gayle is walking back to the changing rooms.

Powell is off the mark with a push over to the leg side, before Jason Mohammed pulls a short ball to send it crashing to the boundary.

In some sense that's disappointing - even for the home crowd, because Gayle has entertained us royally today.

Gayle run out (Rashid) 94 (WI 176-4)

The Universe Boss is gone. He clips it to mid-wicket and goes for the quick single, a direct hit from Adil Rashid and Gayle is inches out. A disappointing end to a fine innings and a massive blow for West Indies.

Has Gayle been run out? It looks close!

That shot from Jason Mohammed was medieval in its brutality.

  11. WI 173-3published at 26 overs

    Gayle 94, Mohammed 28

Ben Stokes continues for his fourth over. Gayle slaps it to mid-off and doesn't fancy a single. A bit like he has a number 11 at the non-strikers' end.

Gayle clips one off the legs to backward square leg and this time he does go for the single to bring Jason Mohammed on strike.

Wow! Mohammed absolutely pummels that to the boundary for a one-bounce four.

    Cheers, Marc.

'Sorry' by Justin Bieber is being belted out over the speakers. Those in charge of the sound system in Bristol certainly know their music. If I could add emojis to this live text, you would now be seeing the sarcastic face.

Chris Gayle has been on form and has turned this match into a right contest. Let's see what happens ...

Chris Woakes has got his pocket taped up. Is he worried about getting a finger caught in his trousers as he runs in to bowl? The type of injury us live texters fear most. Speaking of which, here's my replacement Kal Sajad.

Peter: Actually think batsman should be given benefit of doubt but England not losing their review would be the correct outcome.

Gavin: I bet Samuels is wishing he didn't apply that extra coat of varnish to his bat this morning.

  15. WI 163-3published at 24 overs

    Gayle 92, Mohammed 21

The floodlights are shining bright beneath a dark Bristol sky but there's no sign of the rain which was forecast. West Indies continue to chip away at their target. They could get these, you know.

Let's give Chris Gayle some credit. Now he's warmed to the task, he's anchoring West Indies fantastically well. After a watchful period, he wallops Moeen Ali for three back-to-back sixes down the ground. Bossing it.

The third man region has been profitable for Chris Gayle, who guides four into the area before firing a cold, hard stare in the direction of the bowler Ben Stokes.

The Marlon Samuels wicket. Is it possible that the proximity of the ball to the bat creates a pressure wave that is picked up by the microphone? A minute whoosh that is mistaken for bat-ball contact?

It's gone all Bjork (quiet). Chris Gayle is happy to pat the ball back to Moeen. He needs to get a move on. That required rate is now 8.24.
