  1. WI 62-3published at 13 overs

Prime Minister Theresa May is in the house, ladies and gents. West Indies, and Evin Lewis in particularly, are struggling to find the gaps off Moeen Ali. A leading edge, however, adds two to the tourists' total.

Three from the over. Another neat over from Moeen.

That wasn't a limerick! Try this: The Windies have opened, poor blokes, Facing Ali and Broad but no Stokes. If old England can win, Then we'll all have a spin Which propels our great squad, come on Foakes!!

  3. WI 59-3published at 12 overs

    Lewis 31, Mohammed 10

Plunkett, comfortably the most rugged of the England bowler, powering in, peppering that spot short of a length. When he does err on the fuller side, Lewis collect one to third man courtesy of an intended leave. Four off the over.

That would have been a stunning catch. In a way, you could say he did well to save four runs.

  5. dropped catch

    WI 55-3

That would have been a cracking catch. It may be a bit harsh to call it a drop.

England turn to spin as their number one turner Moeen Ali is introduced, Mohammed strikes it hard and fast and Eoin Morgan, in the covers, jumps up and gets a hand to it, pushing the ball up and taking the sting out of it. The England captain can't quite grab it on the rebound. I saw the great Jonty Rhodes take a few like that.

    Maiden from Moeen.

Kieron Bird: No Stokes but we can rely on Woakes. That's all Foakes.

  7. WI 55-3published at 10 overs

    Lewis 29, Mohammed 9

Liam Plunkett, who was momentarily off the field a couple of overs ago, is the first bowling change. Plunkett has matured into a reliable bowler for England of late but struggles with his line and length in this opening over.

The first is too full and Mohammed with a gentle push through the gap between cover and mid-off for four. Plunkett strays onto the leg side too often as West Indies pick up the ones and twos. Nine from it.

The morning so far belongs to Chris Woakes, who has figures of 3-0-22-3.

  9. WI 46-3published at 9 overs

Chris Woakes continues and nearly outfoxes Evin Lewis with a slower ball. It hit the West Indies opener low on the pads. England consider a review, but opt against it. Replays show it pitched outside leg and took an inside edge.

Lewis struggles to get Woakes away in the first five balls but then makes amends, swivelling on the spot and pulling for four.

That was a really powerful shot. One of those classic West Indian strokes - up on one leg, playing it in the air.

  11. WI 42-3published at 8 overs

    Lewis 25, Mohammed 2

Good running from Evin Lewis, the man some are calling 'the young Gayle' - he dabs it and sets off for a rapid single.

Play and a miss from Mohammed as he looks to cut.

Wide from Ball and Lewis jumps up and backwards and sends the ball crashing to the deep point boundary. One of the shots of the day so far.

Woakes is one of the great cricketing stories of the past 18 months. He's England's go-to man in all forms of the game.

Jason Mohammed - not the BBC Sport presenter - is the new man in. I am allowed to make that joke once. I will never say it again.

Chris Woakes has all the momentum in the world right now, he's on fire. England going aggressive with four slips and a gully - I think I can guess where Woakes will bowl. Mohammed not interested, letting the first one go outside his off stump and then a defensive push into the off.

That somewhat surprised me. Marlon Samuels was wondering if he could review it but someone's had to remind him it's been used. He look disgruntled. I wonder what he'll have to say to Shai Hope in a moment. I thought it was a marginal decision.

    Samuels lbw b Woakes 1 (WI 33-3)

Chris Woakes has another. Marlon Samuels moves across his stumps slightly and is hit high on the pads. Too high? West Indies have no reviews left, but it wouldn't have mattered. Ball tracker shows it was just clipping to the top of the bails.

Is it remotely possible that Paul Collingwood’s selection as coach is a smokescreen to draft him in as an experienced head batting at 5 come Brisbane? Better county average than Vince this season...

  17. WI 33-2published at 6 overs

    Lewis 18, Samuels 1

Jake Ball loves an appeal. He gets so animated. The seamer gets one to move back and it hits Marlon Samuels above the kneeroll - it looked like it hit him outside the line so England decide not to review.

Samuels is off the mark with a push through to the off side. West Indies need to rotate the strike and find them singles much more often than they have done so far in this series.

If they can do that, whilst Evin Lewis plays his natural game, then they're onto a winner. Lewis drives through mid-off for four.

It's a muggy, hazy day at The Oval, and Woakes has found some swing. It's always handy to see Gayle walking back early. England have started very well.

  19. WI 26-2published at 5 overs

    Lewis 12, Samuels 9

Tim, that is jokes. Well played.

Woakes squares up Evin Lewis, a leading edge trickling over to extra-cover. Better from Lewis, who latches on to some width and cuts it past a diving Eoin Morgan at backward point for four.

Kal, here’s an Ashes squad limerick for you..... The selectors said: “Can we really pick Stokes In the same squad as Christopher Woakes?” But Straussy said: “Blokes - If we also pick Foakes - Those Aussies will just think it’s a hoax!”
