  1. 6 runs

    Eng 126-1 (Hales 72, Root 50)published at 16:04 British Summer Time 1 June 2017

England need 306 runs to win

Shot. Alex Hales with a premeditated sweep, down early and whipped away to the fence. Gets down well for such a big man.

And again! Massive six this time for Hales, who has seen enough of this single by single stuff. Into the dressing room windows almost!

Ben Sutton: Praying for Root to convert. Been getting good starts recently and getting out. Get a big one and it may open the floodgates.

Jonathan Kempster: Anyone think that that is enough testing of Mr Roy?

  3. Eng 111-1 (Hales 60, Root 47)published at 16:01 British Summer Time 1 June 2017

England need 306 runs to win

Mustafizur Rahman is back, can he add some excitement? Almost! Plenty of movement away from Alex Hales who did not pick that at all, it flies away off a thick outside edge and Hales is lucky to see that fly into a gap.

An 83mph leg break, basically. I can't really work out how he's gripping the ball.

Nelson - and Root is rattled on the pads, a decent lbw appeal from the visitors, but no call. That was short of length with top spin.

And he ends with a great delivery! Slid across the face of Root, a play and miss.

  4. Eng 110-1 (Hales 59, Root 47)published at 20 overs

These two now have a hundred partnership. Wickets have been hard to come by all day.

    England need under 200 more.

Steve Tredup: Seems simple - rather have the player who could be destructive (Roy) or the player is currently actually destructive (Bairstow)?

Dombacca: Come on Hales keep this going! Lets have a biggie.

Matt Tebbutt: None of the England team have a better List A average than Duckett, who is far better than Roy. He is currently smashing SA 'A' around.

  6. Eng 105-1 (Hales 56, Root 45)published at 19 overs

England need 306 runs to win

Four! Nice shot from Joe Root, just leans on one again and pushes it through midwicket. Well timed.

Play and a miss! A rare moment of danger from Root, who is livid with himself. Good ball from Rubel Hossain, that moved away from the Yorkshireman.

But the 100 is up for England as Alex Hales punches a four through the offside.

  7. Watch: Alex Hales reaches his half centurypublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 1 June 2017

How to get to 50 runs... Smash a boundary to cow corner. Rubel Hossain will not be too impressed.

Test Match Special: Pint-Sized the best of John Arlott

Here's something to savour while there's a break in play. BBC Sport's Pint-Sized Test Match Special remembers John Arlott's best commentary moments, including Don Bradman's last Test and the Lord's "freaker".

  9. Eng 95-1 (Hales 51, Root 40)published at 18 overs

England need 306 runs to win

Alec Stewart wants 120+ for Alex Hales. Over to you.

He looks in control, total control. These two are just pushing the ball into gaps and waiting for the bad ball. Making it look routine.

  10. Postpublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 1 June 2017

    Alec Stewart
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

He took a pace down the pitch, met the bowler and won the battle.

He has to go on now, back this up, double this up. He walks off 120 not out and England win this game.

  11. 50 runs

    Eng 90-1 (Hales 50, Root 38)published at 17 overs

England need 306 runs to win

50 up for Alex Hales as he steps onto the accelerator to club the ball over cow corner for a fine four. A smash.

  12. Postpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 1 June 2017

    Alec Stewart
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

Hales has really improved his game. He was just hitting the ball, hitting the ball, hitting the ball, he was one dimensional.

But now he has now added a bit of finesse.

  13. Eng 85-1 (Hales 46, Root 37)published at 16.3 overs

Rubel Hossain pushes one through at 87 mph, that is not hanging about!

Alex Hales pushes it for a single as the crowd chant 'Engerland!' for the first time. It's that time of day alright.

When Spidercam gets to its lowest point, I reckon that Alex Hales (a tall chap) could obliterate it with a forehand smash with his bat. I'd applaud that. It's a nuisance.

    Simon Mann
    BBC Test Match Special commentator

It's one of those situations where if you're batting first and you're 80-1 off 15 you'd be thinking 300 plus, but it's different when you're batting second with the pressure.

  17. Eng 83-1 (Hales 45, Root 36)published at 16 overs

Patience is the name of the game. Joe Root might be getting itchy feet as he takes a walk down the pitch to Mossadek and almost yorks himself.

Back to his crease for the next ball and another single.

Dave Wood: Roy's form becoming a bit of worry, but would still keep him in the side given how destructive he can be.

Jack Beecroft: I'm all for giving batsmen time but the selectors can't ignore Bairstow anymore, it's a major competition, JB for Roy.

  19. Four out of seven. Five out of eight?published at 15:36 British Summer Time 1 June 2017

Bangladesh have won four of their last seven ODI games versus England; having previously lost all 12 played against England immediately before this current run.

  20. Eng 76-1 (Hales 42, Root 33)published at 15 overs

It's all very, very comfortable for England at the moment. Not the most exciting innings you'll ever see. But comfortable.
