Sri Lanka have done a really good job to hold this top-class batting line-up. They will be thinking if they bat well they can knock this off. They have given themselves a chance.

  2. SA 299-6published at 50 overs

    Duminy 38 off 20 balls

Pradeep has been almost as good as Malinga at finding the blockhole. Treble 20s all round. JP Duminy holds his nerve, though, and drives the quick back down the ground. Lots of bottom hand in that shot. Then he ends with a six over mid-wicket. Meaning Sri Lanka will need 300 to win. A good chase is on the cards.

You don't need power if you can manipulate the bowling like this...

  4. SA 287-6published at 49 overs

    Duminy 27 (16), Parnell 6 (6)

I'm reliably informed that every wicket taken so far in the Champions Trophy has been caught or run out. There's been 27 wickets so far. Nice stat, eh?

Wayne Parnell joins JP Duminy out in the middle. Duminy ended the previous over with a four but there's no boundaries to be found off Lasith Malinga. The over ends with another close shout for run out. We're checking with the third umpire... He's comfortably home.

Anything under 300 and Sri Lanka will be thinking they've done well. With a steady start they could knock that off.

That's a great throw. Morris just jogged past the stumps, straight up the steps and to the pavilion. All of these things towards the end of an innings can be crucial. It means you go off the field with a spring in your step.

Morris run out 20 (SA 277-6)

Bullseye! Chris Morris smears the ball to cover, sets off for a crazy single, Upul Tharanga picks up the ball, takes aim. Bingo! Brilliant fielding from deadeye Upul.

Peter: Cook would've been panned for playing Amla's innings, putting pressure on Root (Faf dP) and Morgan (JPD)

  9. SA 273-5published at 47 overs

Chris Morris lets out a tennis-like yelp when he gives himself room to try and smash Lasith Malinga through the off side. It's a succession of yorkers from the paceman, all of which are dug out for a single until JP Duminy laps four round the corner. Clever batting.

You know when you've middle it. You also know when you've messed up and the ball is flying towards third man. Miller time was concluded at this point.

  11. SA 262-5published at 46 overs

JP Duminy's outside edge is bringing him a few runs as Suranga Lakmal strives for the wicket which will expose the South African tail. He's twice deceived by slow yorkers wide of off stump. Clever bowling.

Dave Pilgrim: I'm pretty sure England used to get vilified for taking this long "setting a platform"

  13. SA 255-5published at 45 overs

    Morris 15, Duminy 10

Sri Lanka have enough Malinga up their sleeve to get through to the end of the innings, but a floaty half-volley is nailed through mid-off for four by Morris. Whilst Morris is all power, Duminy is touch, guiding a yorker-length delivery wide through a second-slip area for another boundary. A much-needed tickle of the gas.

Only four overs have gone for 10 or more. Two 10s and two elevens. Only two overs in the innings have included two boundaries.

This is how Hashim Amla brought up his century. That should have been the platform for some fireworks. It wasn't.

  17. SA 244-5published at 44 overs

The first boundary for nine overs comes via Chris Morris, who cuts Lakmal past point. He is the thrasher in this partnership. JP Duminy will be more surgical.

Aston Smith: Sri Lanka have bowled brilliantly in the past 30 mins or so. Great captaincy to rotate the bowlers and not let Amla score easily.

This is exactly what happened to New Zealand yesterday. JP Duminy and Chris Morris join together in the middle. How the Proteas would love a Lance Klusener now.

Amla made an error. The two might have been on, but when he touched down for the first run it took him a long time to get going. He did a loopy turn. It he was able to touch and go, he might have got in.
