  1. SL 22-0published at 4 overs

    Dickwella 17, Tharanga 3

Dickwella is channeling the spirit of Sanath Jayasuriya here, some typical Sri Lankan top-order biffing. Tharanga gives himself room against Parnell and gets a thick edge over the two slips for four. And again! This time a better connection square of the wicket for four more.

It was in his hands. Catches don't often come so easy. He'll be having nightmares about that tonight.

  3. dropped catch

Tharanga dropped on 2published at 3 overs

    SL 10-0

Good lord. What is it with dropped catches today? This is one of the worst you'll see in international cricket. Or backyard cricket. Upul Tharanga looks to pull Kagiso Rabada, gets a toe end, looping the ball back to the bowler. It's like someone has thrown a tennis ball at a three-year-old, but Rabada still drops it. As bad as you'll see.

  4. SL 9-0published at 2 overs

    Target 300

Loving this chat. Places you've seen Imran Tahir celebrate. Left-armer Wayne Parnell at t'other end, full of length but no great movement. Dickwella, on the charge, dances down the track and goes inside out over cover for four. How long before I honk my upset hooter?

Adam Wheeler: Right. Sat by window just to see Tahir run past it again when he takes a wicket. Familiar sight and I live in Wallingford!

  6. SL 3-0published at 1 over

    Target 300

A pair of lefties opening for Sri Lanka, Rabada already cranking the speedo up to 90mph in the sunshine. Dickwella tries to flay through the off side, but gets nothing on it. The band are back in full flow. They'll need oxygen by the end of the day.

What about taking fielder off? If you're behind on the overs after an hour, you lose a fielder.

It took over four hours for Sri Lanka to bowl 50 overs. That's an astonishingly long time.

Niroshan Dickwella is scratching a guard, Upul Tharanga is at the other end. Kagiso Rabada has the ball. This should be a good 'un.

Thanks to Marc Higginson, Stephan Shemilt in the chair now. South Africa are having a nice cuddle before the Sri Lanka openers emerge. "Right lads, if we knock them over quickly, we can get into the pub."

So Sri Lanka, the underdogs, will need exactly 300 to beat the world number ones. It's deliciously poised.

Hashim Amla kept going, regardless - expertly guiding the ball around the park.

Faf Du Plessis brought up a run-a-ball 50, playing shots like this:

One thing is always certain, though - Hashim Amla will be steadily scoring runs down the other end. Today was no different. The right-hander was in majestic form.

  18. Lasith makes a right Faf of thingspublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 3 June 2017

Even the normally-reliable Faf Du Plessis struggled to get the bowling away and almost paid with his wicket. If only Lasith Malinga had held this chance when the batsman was in single figures. Faf ended up passing 50.

Shall we recap on the South Africa innings?

It was a slow start for the Proteas, with some fantastic seam bowling from Lasith Malinga and Nuwan Pradeep keeping them in check.

Something had to give. And so it proved...

Here's that run out from earlier. What a superb throw from the skipper.
