  1. NZ 140-2published at 26 overs

    Target 311

It's going to be a good un, isn't it? The tournament needs a good game and, at the minute, you fancy this to go the wire. Who would you rather be at the moment? England have the runs on the board, but the Kiwis are probably best placed. Ross Taylor skips down the track to take Adil Rashid for four.

Right, I'll leave you in Stephan's capable hands for the final 25 overs. When he's stopped scoffing a sarnie, that is. In a bit.

  3. NZ 134-2published at 25 overs

    Taylor 23, Williamson 73

Short from Stokes and Williamson pulls it, splitting the field nicely and picking up another boundary. Lovely placement. Stokes pulls his trousers up and stomps back to his mark, muttering away to himself. Ooh, big shout for lbw, both Stokes and Buttler want a review, but Morgan's not having it. Rightly so, that's sliding down leg side. New Zealand are now ahead of the DLS par score, and Williamsons celebrates that by thudding a full toss into the rope.

There's few batsmen I enjoy watching in all formats more than Williamson. He's toughed it out today after England's opening bowlers took the attack to him.

  5. NZ 123-2published at 24 overs

    Target 311

Williamson has timed the pants off a ping through mid-wicket; that's beautiful, a shimmy down the wicket to bring the ball onto his pads then working it between two diving fielder for four. And again, going over the top this time, but the ball sticks in the outfield and they run two. Rashid's taken a bit of tap there, nine from a pretty decent over.

I played for North City in grade cricket in Wellington. It was very windy there so I let the young prospect Mark Gillespie (who went on to play for New Zealand) bowl with the wind at his back. I was the overseas pro and he wanted to push for honours, so it was only right. It was hard work bowling into the wind, though.

  7. NZ 114-2published at 23 overs

    Taylor 21, Williamson 57

That's a thwack and a half from Williamson, pulling Stokes to the longest boundary on the ground, and it's past a charging Roy and into the rope with a bounce. He wasn't in with a chance of catching it but I reckon Roy could have cut that off. Oh, and Williamson so nearly chops on! A horrid swipe that he bottom edges past the stumps. And another boundary for England as Taylor swishes, and Rashid can't cut it off along the boundary.

That was a good decision by England, not to ask for a review. In a tight game like this, a review could swing it later on.

  10. NZ 103-2published at 22 overs

    Target 311

That's so close to another wicket! Taylor take on Rashid, edging down the pitch and slapping the ball over mid-on, but it only just flies above Jake Ball, who was jumping into the air. The hand was outstretched but the ball only kissed the fingertips. A huge lbw shout from the next ball, and Buttler likes it, but that's pitched just outside off stump. Tantalisingly close - and good from Morgan to calm his players down when they were itching for the review.

It's been a measured performance so far from Williamson, taking 66 balls to get his fifty.

    NZ 97-2

A leisurely jog brings up Kane Williamson's half-century, and he raises his bat to the Cardiff crowd. It's been a test for him - he didn't look comfortable first up at all - but he's stuck in there. He made a century against Australia on Friday, in similarly grey conditions. This is his 30th in one-day cricket; he's turned nine of those into three figures.

I have no idea what this delivery from Liam Plunkett found on the pitch, but it went off at a horrible angle for Ross Taylor to deal with. Have a look below.

  14. NZ 93-2published at 20 overs

    Taylor 9, Williamson 49

Now then. The third ball of the Rashid over is called a dead ball because the wind has actually blown the boundary rope onto the field of play. Out come a load of groundstaff to shove it back into its proper place. Williamson turns his wrists on a drive to flick a couple square of the wicket.

England have been impressive in the field. The bowlers have been on target and the odd delivery has misbehaved. Things can change quickly, however, when there's a batsman of the ability of Kane Williamson at the crease. Ross Taylor is dangerous too but takes a while to get going these days.

  16. NZ 88-2published at 19 overs

    Plunkett 5-0-26-0

Plunkett has found a bit of the pitch that no other bowler has. Short, again to Williamson, he ducks but the bat is poking up like a periscope. The ball hits the bat and flies down to the boundary for four runs, while everyone looks at each other in a slightly confused fashion. That's quite a profitable over for New Zealand in the end.

Hello, here's Adil Rashid. The leggie was left out of the opener against Bangladesh. Taylor paddles the ball down to the third man boundary and a good slide from Moeen, jogging to his left, stops the ball running for four. Rashid pulls it back with the final two balls of the over, a pair of dots to keep New Zealand alert.

It's windy out there. But it's no Storm Doris. A lap of the ground yields plenty of broken twigs but nothing remotely bough-lengthed. No immediate requirement to tether the umpires.

  20. NZ 73-2published at 17 overs

    Taylor 4, Williamson 34

Two fellas in the crowd are working their way through their sandwiches, floppy hats still stuck determinedly on their head despite the weather. A jogged single here, a clip through mid-wicket there, New Zealand doing what they can to keep things ticking along.
