  1. SL 196-3published at 33 overs

126 runs needed from 102 balls

Now Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews does come out to bat. His team need an innings from him.

The replays show the Indian fans jumping up in celebration in the stands and Kumar threw the stumps down. A great picture. Those fans are confident again now.

Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special

The batsman stays with his face in the dirt. He can't believe it. How often do you see an India fast bowler do that?

Mendis run out 89 (Kumar) SL 196-3

Brilliant from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He picks the ball up off his own bowling and fires down the stumps.

Mendis is well short. A fine knock but his team needed more.

  4. Umpire reviewpublished at 32.4 overs

    Not another run out?

India build the same house every time - scoring 320 is the end result. Sometimes you have to go for the extra en-suite bathroom and extend yourself.

  6. SL 194-2published at 32 overs

Kumar Sangakkara is sounding confident about his former side's chances on the TV commentary.

How Sri Lanka would love to have the graceful left-hander out there.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back in place of Kedar Jadhav.

Quite often with the occasional bowler, you give them one more and that's the one which goes for 28.

  8. SL 194-2published at 32 overs

    Mendis 88 K Perera 8

Still Kohli keeps turning his arm over. Four more singles. The Indian captain is doing well. Sneaky in a few bonus overs while Perera gets settled. His front line men - Jadeja in particular - have not been on top form.

Things have got a lot more tense since Danushka Gunathilaka was run-out. He could have gone a couple of overs earlier had Rohit Sharma held on to this toughie...

  10. SL 190-2published at 31 overs

    Target 322

I reckon this is 50-50 now. 138 off 20 overs with eight wickets in hand is definitely do-able from Sri Lanka's point of view. But will their inexperience show? They lost eight for 98 against South Africa remember.

Jadhav has a really round arm as he bowls his spin and this ball starts down the leg side and keeps on going. Wide correctly called.

He finds a better line and the edge of Perera's next ball. It hits MS Dhoni on the thigh. The wicketkeeper had no chance. I'm not even going to get out the dropped catch graphic.

The best comparison of bowling action I have for Virat Kohli is Pakistan's Sohail Tanvir.

  12. SL 184-2published at 30 overs

138 to win from 120 balls

Despite the breakthrough, Kohli is not going back to his front line bowlers. He is going to continue himself.

He'll be pretty happy with his over. Just five from it as he heads for a chat with the wise head of MS Dhoni at the end of the 30th.

  13. SL 179-2published at 29 overs

    Mendis 80 K Perera 3

Interestingly Kusal Perera is the new man, not Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews.

There's a lot of pressure on the shoulders of 22-year-old Kusal Mendis now. He still looks comfortable, Jadhav serves up an awful delivery that gets what t deserves. Four more to the total.

  14. SL 171-2published at 28 overs

    Target 322

So it does not come the way he planned it but that Virat Kohli over brings a wicket.

Whose game is this from here?

You feel like that was the only way India were going to take a wicket.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

Gunathilaka run out (Yadav) 76 (169-2)

    There was just no need.

Gunathilaka turns and goes for the second run. Yadav's throw is good from the deep and Dhoni whips off the bails in a flash.

It was tight but an easy decision for the third umpire. Mendis is furious at the non-striker's end.

  17. Umpire reviewpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

Oh no! Not a run out!

India are confident. They think they have Gunathilaka.

Virat Kohli's action is so awkward and the complete contrast to his batting. Sometimes a change like this can unsettle the batsman.

  19. SL 162-1published at 27.1 overs

    Target 322

I told you Kohli was not impressed.

He has brought himself on to bowl. "If you can't do it, I'll have a go myself".

Mendis just keeps on going. He pulls the world's most famous current cricketer for four.

  20. SL 162-1published at 16:40 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

    Gunathilaka 73 Mendis 69

Kohli turns to Jadhav for a breakthrough.

The spinner stops the flow of boundaries but can't find a wicket.
