He expended quite a lot of effort there but it went straight up in the air. It wasn't the most fluent of innings. It hit the bottom of the bat. Are the Kiwis not batting very well or is it not a very good pitch? It kept low.

  2. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 43.1 overs

    Broom c Tamim b Mosaddek 36 (NZ 228-5)

Every time New Zealand begin to go through the gears, they start to splutter and jerk like an ageing engine. Neil Broom tries to - let's be honest - slog Mosaddek and the ball squirts off the bottom of the bat, high into the air and is safely caught by Tamim at backward point.

  3. NZ 228-4published at 43 overs

New Zealand's middle order has also lost Grant Elliott since the last World Cup. He was an unsung hero of sorts - and that six he nailed to get the Kiwis over the line in the semi-final will live long in the memory. Neesham is the man tasked with replacing him as a seam-up all-rounder and a pull to the boundary is followed by a straight-drive for four.

After the 30th over, New Zealand were 152-3 and it wasn't long after that Williamson was run out. That is an indication that he felt they needed to up the rate.

It is clearly one of Williamson's flaws - running between the wicket. He is not alone in being a meticulous batsman who, when running between the wicket, it all goes out the window.

Mosaddek is brought on for a bowl and his first delivery almost castles Jimmy Neesham who is surprised by a 60mph off-break. Quite quick, that is. Five singles follow. Not enough at this stage.

These two or three overs are likely to be the difference between New Zealand scoring 230 and 270.

  7. NZ 211-4published at 41 overs

A colleague of mine - Phil Dawkes - has suggested New Zealand have lost their edge and fearlessness since Brendon McCullum retired. I tend to agree. While I rate Kane Williamson as an incredible batsman and even as a captain, perhaps his more studious persona is making his team responsible but less attacking. Jimmy Neesham is off the mark with a four. Nine overs left for the Kiwis to post a challenging total.

  8. Watch Taylor fall on his swordpublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

This is the wicket which could cost New Zealand a total of 300. Taskin was just too good for Ross Taylor.

  9. NZ 203-4published at 40 overs

    Broom 29, Neesham 0

Neil Broom appears suspicious of a Mustafizur delivery which pops ever so slightly. He uncomfortably dabs it into the leg side then nervously shuffles down the other end in the manner of somebody who's running to the bathroom in the middle of the night - looking over his shoulder, ever-so-slightly ponderous.

  10. NZ 201-4published at 39 overs

    Taskin 8-0-43-2

I'm calling it. Bangladesh will win from here.

That was very well set up by Taskin. He went for a ramp but didn't get enough contact. This wicket could just bring things back into Bangladesh's favour.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 38.4 overs

    Taylor c Mustafizur b Taskin 63 (NZ 201-4)

Another big, potentially-decisive blow is administered by Bangladesh. Ross Taylor, one delivery after failing to connect with a hook shot, tries to ramp Taskin round the corner and the ball flies into the air before landing into the clasped hands of a diving Mustafizur at short fine-leg.

  13. NZ 198-3published at 38 overs

    Mustafizur 7-0-43-0

Mustafizur has enjoyed a whirlwind couple of years since bursting onto the scene in 2015. Just 21, he's already played in four domestic competitions - including the IPL and in county cricket for Sussex - and he's got 82 wickets in all formats for his country. Despite that, however, he has never reached double figures with the bat for the Tigers. We can probably summise he's not going to be the one to see Bangladesh to their target today. His latest over is tidy, just five singles from it.

This is lining up nicely here. NZ could get to 200 around the 38th or 29th over. With wickets in hand you can go at 10s. You usually get a big over of 16, 17, etc, but if they can balance out at 10s they can get themselves to 300.

Taskin has done a good job but it is one of those wickets where unless you are bang on it, good players will find a way to move it around and score.

  15. NZ 192-3published at 37 overs

    Taylor 58, Broom 25

Neil Broom might be a new name to many of you - me included - but he's been around the block. He's 33 and his younger brother, Darren, is already retired from first-class cricket. He can clearly play though as he cuts Taskin through point for four. Ross Taylor weighs in with a lofted boundary back down the ground.

I was expecting a few bigger scores, around the 350 mark. Seeing the way Sri Lanka chased down India's score withe ease, if a team does decide to go big and attack a team then 300 is not enough. You want to be aiming for 340 to give yourself that cushion.

  17. NZ 181-3published at 36 overs

    Run-rate 5.03

Mustafizur - a rookie at 21 - bounds in with the enthusiasm of a young puppy before delivering a decent yorker which is dug out by Neil Broom. Going through his later overs repertoire, he delivers wide of the crease to Ross Taylor who reaches for it and pushes two into the off side.

  18. NZ 178-3published at 35 overs

    Taylor 51, Broom 18

Taskin is bowling at decent speeds in this match - 86-87mph - and there's a sense he can go even faster as he develops. His extra bounce is utilised by the batsmen who help the odd single round the corner.

  19. More success for the Yorkies!published at 14:03 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

  20. 50 runs

50 for Ross Taylorpublished at 34.1 overs

    NZ 175-3

Ross Taylor notches another international half-century - the 37th of his one-day career - with a dab down to third man. The milestone comes off 67 balls. Time to open those shoulders now though.
