  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 5.3 overs

    Rohit c De Kock b Morkel 12 (India 23-1)

The breakthrough that South Africa needed. Morkel angles it in, Rohit makes room and attempts to carve over the off side, the ball takes the outside edge and De Kock takes a smart catch tumbling to his right. A sniff for South Africa?

  3. India 23-0published at 5 overs

Rabada drops short, Dhawan wastes no time latching on to it. He may not have been entirely in control of the pull, but it evaded the fine leg fielder all the same. The crowd, as ever, goes wild.

Oh dear, oh dear. It's starting to get a bit ugly for South Africa, even in the field. I'd look to get Imran Tahir on pretty quickly.

  5. India 18-0published at 4 overs

    Target 192

Now Dhawan joins in the fun. Morkel strays on to the leftie's pads and he whips it disdainfully over square leg for a glorious six. Glorious stuff. Two sixes in the first 22 balls. South Africa managed one in their entire innings. Can I revise my sweepstake estimate?

This is the trouble for India: you have to go searching for wickets and with that they're occasionally going to lay about on the half-volley. Then a slightly back-of-a-length ball is bumped over mid-wicket.

  7. 6 runs

    India 12-0published at 3 overs

    Target 192

Rabada, armed with two slips, squares Rohit up with a beauty, then beats the bat with one that rises of just short of a length. Rohit takes a slightly suspicious look at the pitch, then responds with a wonderful punched straight drive, followed by a ferocious pull for six over mid-wicket. Take that.

Unbelievable. It was a forward defensive push straight to the fielder. I'm not sure what went through the mind of Dhawan there.

  9. dropped catch

    Close!published at 2 overs

    India 2-0 (target 192)

What on earth have the players been drinking?! Now India's batsmen are it it too. Rohit is almost run out as Shikhar Dhawan sells him up the river. Dhawan drops Morne Morkel into the leg side and sets off on a suicidal single. David Miller swoops at mid-wicket, and Rohit was barely in the frame as Miller's throw fizzed past the stumps at the striker's end. Hands on head all round in the field.

South Africa must take early wickets. There's no other way about it. Rabada needs to get a couple, Tahir needs to pick up a five-for.

  11. India 0-0published at 1 over

A good start for Rabada - bang on the money straightaway, albeit with minimal threat. Rohit, solid in defence, content to block out a maiden.

The players are back out. Kagiso Rabada - South Africa's great hope here, you suspect - has the ball in hand. Rohit Sharma will face the first nut.

Thanks Steph. We're considering a sweepstake in the office on how many overs India will need to knock these off. I'm saying 29.2.

South Africa, by the way, lost their last eight wickets for 51 runs. Not so much falling on your sword, but placing it pointy-end up, climbing to the top of a ladder and jumping off head first.

Living and working in Jakarta, Indonesia I was back home in Sheffield for 3 weeks in 2015. My old club arranged a friendly to coincide with my time back home. Having not played for 9 years, I got a second-ball duck having left the first ball I faced. Oh the shame...
