Lancashire have passed the 200-mark at Chelmsford, with Jordan Clark and Dane Vilas ' partnership nearing 50.

Meanwhile, Surrey have breezed past the same figure, albeit with five more wickets in hand and their two new signings Mark Stoneman (110 not out) and Scott Borthwick  (21 not out) showing off in the middle.

  2. 'Factor 30 at Chelmsford'published at 15:19 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

Sunshine, suncream and a substitute fielder have dominated the afternoon session so far.

While spectators in the packed grandstand in Chelmsford were slapping on the Factor 30, sub fielder Callum Taylor was busy taking a excellent catch to dismiss Lancashire captain Steven Croft and then shortly afterwards he ran out West Indian great Shiv Chanderpaul - a smart piece of fielding as Lancashire suffered a post lunch wobble.

  3. Ballance steadying the ship for Yorkshirepublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Yorkshire 175-7 v Hampshire

Gary Ballance is the man you want at the crease in a situation of this kind. His unflappable nature is proving the perfect antidote to a probing Hampshire attack at present.

The Yorkshire captain is 70 not out from 124 balls, with Steven Patterson just getting underway on 4 at the other end.

  4. 'Lovely way for Stoneman to start'published at 15:15 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Surrey 197-1 v Warwickshire

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

A classy innings from Mark Stoneman..his 17th boundary moved him to a century on his Surrey debut...a lovely way for the opener to start his summer in South London.

  5. 'Wickets continue to tumble at Northants'published at 15:13 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Northants 29-3 v Glamorgan

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

The wickets continued to tumble through the afternoon at Northampton as Northants lost three wickets in the space of four overs.

South African paceman Marchant de Lange grabbed the key wicket of England's Ben Duckett, trapped lbw for 12, having already taken a sprawling catch at third man when Rob Newton skied the bowling of Lukas Carey.

Harry Podmore then joined in by having on-loan teenager Max Holden caught for nought, before Alex Wakely survived being "bowled" by a Craig Meschede no-ball and dropped at slip.

Earlier Rory Kleinveldt, Ben Sanderson and Nathan Buck combined to skittle Glamorgan for 101.

A ton up for Mark Stonemanpublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Surrey 195-1 v Warwickshire

Not a bad debut for Mark Stoneman . Sun is out, bat, score a century in front of the new home fans and with friend Scott Borthwick at the other end to celebrate with.

It's been a good one, too. The 29-year-old's 17th first-class century will be one he remembers for a long time. It has contained 17 fours and occupied 169 balls.

  7. Clark gets a move on for Lancashirepublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Essex v Lancashire 195-6

The best form of defence is attack, right? So it seems for Jordan Clark , as the Lancashire all-rounder gets a move on against Essex after a few quick wickets.

Four balls was enough to get his eye in, as he launched spinner Simon Harmer over the rope. He's 23 not out from 15 balls, with Dane Vilas (25) at the other end.

  8. Kent collapse?published at 15:00 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Kent 154-5 v Gloucestershire

    Bob Hunt
    BBC Radio Gloucestershire

Liam Norwell's superb spell gets a justified result. Will Gidman, after being given a torrid time is caught by Cameron Bancroft in the slips for 10.

That's three wickets for the Cornishman, and Kent need to settle on a pitch that doesn't seem to be too problematic.

WICKET Duckett (lbw de Lange) 12published at 14:57 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Northants 25-2 v Glamorgan 101

It wasn't to be for Ben Duckett , who has been pinned by big South African quick Marchant de Lange after a 32-ball struggle at the crease.

It's one to remember for de Lange, who takes his first wicket for Glamorgan.

  10. 'Hampshire have pitched the ball up'published at 14:57 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Yorkshire 156-7 v Hampshire

    Kevan James
    Sport Presenter, BBC Radio Solent

Yorkshire shaded the first session (95-2), but have lost five wickets for 57 runs since.

Fidel Edwards has found a bit of late movement and Kyle Abbott is back in the groove. Both have picked up two wickets since the break with Gareth Berg chipping in another.

The Hampshire bowlers have just pitched the ball up a little further which has drawn a lot of the Yorkshire batsmen forward. All the wickets since lunch have been bowled (three), lbw and caught at slip.

Gary Ballance remains steadfast though, it will take a good ball to remove the new Tykes skipper.

  11. 'It could not have gone better for Northants'published at 14:52 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Northants 25-1 v Glamorgan 101

    Alex Winter
    BBC Radio Northampton sport

It's now a very pleasant day at Wantage Road and Northamptonshire will be delighted with the sun coming out as they begin their reply.

It could not have gone better for the home side having lost the toss. Rory Kleinveldt, Ben Sanderson and Nathan Buck gave nothing away and there was enough movement with the new ball to whittle through the Glamorgan order.

Now, if the visitors aren't careful, the could be well behind the game by this evening.

But all eyes at the moment are on Ben Duckett, who made 1,338 runs last season, propelling him to international honours. His winter, for all manner of teams across all formats, did not go to plan and he's back to prove again what a fine player he is.

Northants have just lost Rob Newton for 10, with Duckett unbeaten on 12.

WICKET Rafiq (b Abbott) 6published at 14:51 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Yorkshire 152-7 v Hampshire

A partner was what Gary Ballance needed. But it's not what he's got.

Azeem Rafiq allows a ball from Kyle Abbott through his defences and Ballance now has it all to do as Hampshire welcome Steven Patterson to the crease.

  13. Not even in the framepublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Essex v Lancashire 162-6

Poor old Shivnarine Chanderpaul is nowhere to be seen as Simon Harmer runs him out at Chelmsford.

Lancashire are in all sorts of trouble now.

Fifty for Gary Ballancepublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Yorkshire 152-6 v Hampshire

With carnage around him, new Yorkshire skipper Gary Ballance hasn't been put off his game. The gritty left-hander moves to a first half-century of the season with a four off Gareth Berg.

Azeem Rafiq is at the other end and a partnership is needed from the home side.

  15. Sam Northeast goespublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Kent 143-4 v Gloucestershire

    Bob Hunt
    BBC Radio Gloucestershire

A great breakthrough for Gloucestershire as Sam Northeast is smartly caught by Chris Dent for 22, giving Chris Liddle his first wicket for the visitors.

At the other end, Will Gidman is being given a very warm welcome by his erstwhile team-mate Liam Norwell. Another wicket now, and Gloucestershire will be extremely pleased with the afternoon's work; those last two wickets fell for no runs.

WICKET McClaren (c Westley b Wagner) 0published at 14:43 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Essex v Lancashire 160-6

I thought Essex might fancy it but I didn't envisage a first ball duck from debutant Ryan McClaren. The South African all-rounder, so often the saviour for Hampshire last season, has fallen straight away to the canny swing of Neil Wagner.

    Great pressure from Essex.

  18. wicket

WICKET Chanderpaul (run out) 15published at 14:40 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Essex v Lancashire 160-5

There's not so much spring in the legs as there used to be for 42-year-old Shivnarine Chanderpaul! The crab-like left-hander is walking back to the pavilion after a mix-up with Dane Vilas.

Essex may fancy their chances from here on.
