    Kent 80-2 v Gloucestershire - Lunch

    Adam Whitty
    BBC Radio Kent

It's honours even at the Spitfire Ground at lunch.

It looked like it would be Kent's session until 12:45 BST, with 20-year-old debutant Joe Weatherley and Joe Denly putting together a strong second wicket partnership.

But Weatherley fell to Craig Miles for 36 just before the interval, meaning Gloucestershire got just reward for their bowling this morning.

  2. Seamers make most of conditionspublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Leicestershire 101-5 v Notts - Lunch

    Richard Rae
    BBC Radio Leicester Sport

Nottinghamshire's seamers made the most of the conditions after captain Chris Read exercised the away team's option to bowl first against Leicestershire at the Fischer County Ground.

Stuart Broad struck in the first over of the day, bowling Paul Horton with a delivery that took the inside edge as the experienced opener tried to leave, and cannoned on to leg stump.

Australia international James Pattinson, making his championship debut for Notts, also picked up an early wicket, trapping Colin Ackermann leg before with a delivery that seamed back in to the South African.

With the pitch playing well but the ball swinging in the cool and cloudy conditions, former Leicestershire left-armer Harry Gurney pressed home the advantage. Teenager Harry Dearden had batted solidly in going to 12, but fenced at a delivery just outside off stump to edge a catch behind.

Gurney picked up his second wicket when a fine, swinging delivery knocked Mark Pettini's off-stump out of the ground to leave the Foxes on 70-4, and though Lewis Hill looked in good touch, hitting five boundaries in racing to 24, Pattinson's return saw him steer a short, wide delivery in the over before lunch straight to point.

Leicestershire captain Mark Cosgrove, watching on 40 not out, will not have been impressed.

    Yorkshire 96-2 v Hampshire - Lunch

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent

Not as much movement for the bowlers this morning, but enough.

Adam Lyth looked in good touch before he was caught behind trying to take his bat away to Gareth Berg. Fidel Edwards bowled Alex Lees with a fullish delivery.

Kyle Abbott got better as the session wore on. He said last week that he needs a bit more practise with the red ball, and Gary Ballance (24 not out) has been workmanlike.

Yorkshire will be pleased that only two wickets have fallen, giving them a base to build on.

  5. Hameed looking the partpublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Essex v Lancashire 114-2 - Lunch

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

It's lunch at a sunny Chelmsford where Lancashire and England batsman Haseeb Hameed has shown no ill effects from his hand injury which made him doubtful for this match as he gets to lunch unbeaten on 47 with Lancashire 114-2.

The 20-year-old's importance to the Lancashire team was on show after Essex made an early breakthrough at one end, but he didn't offer a chance, while Steven Croft is also unbeaten on 34.

Lancashire opted not to bowl first and on the evidence of the opening session they'll be targeting a sizeable first-innings total.

  6. Good toss not to have hadpublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Surrey 133-0 v Warwickshire - Lunch

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

Surrey will be delighted with the opening session of 2017...Warwickshire will wonder whether they should have asked for the coin to go up.

Rory Burns and Mark Stoneman have played immaculately. Both have played some handsome shots on either side of the wicket and have taken full advantage of the conditions.

Stoneman was the first to fifty, quickly followed by Burns but Ian Bell must be worried. Neither batsman has looked in too much difficulty and Warwickshire will be hoping something happens after the lunch break or this could be a very long opening day of the season for them.

It's always lovely to see Dan Norcross and Ebony Rainford Brent!

The Test Match Special pair are travelling to all six grounds on the opening day of the County Championship season.

By my reckoning, they should be on the M1 shortly, heading from Leicestershire to Northants!

  11. Glamorgan's session gets worsepublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Northants v Glamorgan 74-7

Update from Division Two where Glamorgan's opening session of the season nears its end.

After steadying the ship somewhat - a clatter of wickets had left them 26-6 after all - the Welsh side have lost another man, Craig Meschede falling caught and bowled to become Rory Kleinveldt's third wicket.

Elsewhere, Leicestershire are 92-4 against Nottinghamshire, with captain Mark Cosgrove leading the way on 40.

At Canterbury, Kent are moving along nicely, if cirumspectly on 76-1, with Joe Weatherley on 36 and Joe Denly on 28.

    "We'll have a bowl please."

Two hours later - 126 without loss, two set batsmen with half-centuries under their belts, and warm early April sunshine beating down.

    Not ideal.

    Kent 62-1 v Gloucestershire

    Adam Whitty
    BBC Radio Kent

In Kent's opening partnership of Daniel Bell-Drummond and Joe Weatherley, you would be more concerned about the form of 20-year-old Weatherley.

However, it is England Lion Bell-Drummond who has his feet up in the Kent dressing room, while the debutant is batting excellently, showing patience combined with beautiful strokeplay, as he finds himself 31 not out.

Joe Denly is at the other end on 19 not out, after a competitive early first session in Canterbury.

That's some way to bring up your half-century!

Rory Burns biffs Oliver Hannon-Dalby for six to reach his fifty off 60 balls.

The Surrey hundred is up, the skies are blue, batting is easy.

  19. 50 runs

Fifty for Mark Stonemanpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Surrey 98-0 v Warwickshire

What a fine start for Mark Stoneman on his Surrey debut.

The opener, who joined from Durham, moves to his half-century off 65 balls, including nine boundaries.

Rory Burns is unbeaten on 42 at the other end.

Surrey are going to take some beating this season - their batting line-up looks formidable.

Haseeb Hameed will do well to impress these two, but he's doing a fine job so far.

The Lancashire opener is now on 33, having just hit Aaron Beard for his fifth boundary.
