Both Yorkshire openers are now gone.

Adam Lyth attempts to leave one from Gareth Berg, but somehow manages to feather the ball through to wicketkeeper Lewis McManus.

He's gone for 30 and new captain Gary Ballance strolls to the middle.

  3. Glamorgan collapse to 26-6published at 12:08 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Northants v Glamorgan 26-6

    BBC Radio Wales

Jacques Rudolph has been left regretting his brave decision to bat first at Northampton as six wickets have crashed with only just over an hour played.

Rory Kleinveldt trapped both Nick Selman and David Lloyd lbw without scoring, before Rudolph edged Ben Sanderson to slip for 9.

Colin Ingram then followed for 6, caught behind in Nathan Buck's first over for his new county.

Buck then dismissed Chris Cooke and Kiran Carlson in successive deliveries to put the away side in dire straights.

WICKET Livingstone (c Chopra b Beard) 28published at 12:01 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Essex v Lancashire 50-2

Liam Livingstone 's bright and breezy innings for Lancashire is over.

Aaron Beard tempts him into a wild cover drive, he nicks it, the ball is parried up in the air by Tom Westley at second slip and then snaffled by a diving Varun Chopra.

It was a comedy of errors but Livingstone has to go.

    Who will shine in 2017?

Charlie Huntingford: Middlesex's Tom Helm has to be my pick for the 2017 County Championship season if he can stay fit.

William Orr:  Could be Dom Sibley's big year but my tip is Liam Livingstone to make the Ashes tour.

A solid start from Mark Stoneman and Rory Burns for Surrey. Both have been tested by Keith Barker and Chris Wright but runs have started to flow from the bats of the Surrey opening pair.

Burns has played a couple of lovely shots off the back foot but there is enough there to keep the bowlers interested.

A good crowd is in at Chelmsford. And they're watching a bit of a Haseeb Hameed masterclass at the moment.

The young Lancashire opener smacks Aaron Beard to the point boundary to move to 16.

He looks in absolutely no bother as per usual.

  10. 'Questionable to bat first'published at 11:41 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Northants v Glamorgan 14-3

    Alex Winter
    BBC Radio Northampton sport

Alex Wakely said his side were "fed up of being average" in the County Championship ahead of the new season.

The way they've started here suggested they are determined to do something about it. Rory Kleinveldt and Ben Sanderson have not given an inch in their opening bursts and there has been just enough with the new ball for early inroads.

One might have to question the decision of Jacques Rudloph, the Glamorgan captain, to bat first.

    Surrey 35-0 v Warwickshire

Surrey were former England captain Michael Vaughan's tip for the title before the season and they're off to a decent start at The Oval against Warwickshire.

Rory Burns is on 22, while Durham import Mark Stoneman has just hit his second boundary to move to 13.

Scott Borthwick and Kumar Sangakkara are the next men in for Surrey - it could be a long afternoon for the visitors.

  13. Good month for Porterpublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Essex v Lancashire 32-1

Looks like Essex paceman Jamie Porter likes bowling April.

Meanwhile at Chelmsford, Lancashire and England opener Hasseb Hameed strokes Neil Wagner through the covers for his second boundary and moves to 12.

    Glorious shot from Hameed.

James Pattinson is making his Nottinghamshire debut this morning, taking the new ball alongside Stuart Broad at Grace Road.

But despite this being his first County Championship fixture, the Australian fast bowler may already feel at home.

His older brother Darren won a Test cap for England while playing for Notts back in 2008, while his father John also spent time as a youngster at Nottingham Forest nearly 40 years ago.

"It is a bit bizarre," Pattinson junior told BBC Nottingham Sport. "I can't imagine there's many siblings who've done that before."
