    Surrey 454 v Warwickshire 91 & 225-6

He's some batsman is Jonathan Trott.

The Warwickshire number three brings up his 41st first-class century, just when his side needed it the most.

The hard work begins here though for Trott and the Bears lower order.

They still need another 138 runs to avoid an innings defeat at The Oval.

  2. No foregone conclusionpublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Essex 159 & 32-0 v Lancashire 319 & 317-3 dec

Lancashire might not find it quite as easy to take 10 Essex wickets as they did in the first innings.

The pitch is looking pretty flat today.

Varun Chopra and Nick Browne have started very watchfully for the hosts at Chelsmford.

    Yorkshire 273 & 187 v Hampshire 141 & 200-4 - Tea

    Dave Callaghan
    BBC West Yorkshire Sport

In glorious April sunshine this has been a wonderful advert for County Championship cricket.

With 32 overs to go and the potential for an extra eight, Hampshire need 120 to win and Yorkshire need six wickets.

Hampshire, with Carberry, Adams and Vince making useful contributions, have looked in control at times, but Yorkshire keep hitting back at keep things interesting.

It is bite your nails time at Headingley.

  6. Postpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

Thanks Felix. I've just been frantically writing the Kent v Gloucestershire report which you can read here.

What's going on with all these low scores? Three teams bowled out for less than 100 in the opening three days of the season. Get back in the nets fellas!

  7. Postpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

All this talk of tea has got me thirsty.

I'm off to join the cricketers - but don't worry, Gary Smee is back to take you through the final session where the main focus will be on the tight game at Headingley.

  8. Tea at The Ovalpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Surrey 454 v Warwickshire 91 & 224-6

And there is tea. Keith Barker (13) negotiates an over of spin from Scott Borthwick to keep his wicket intact.

Jonathan Trott will sip his cup of tea with 99 runs to his name. His side are still 139 runs behind Surrey.

  9. dropped catch

Barker dropped by Burnspublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Surrey 454 v Warwickshire 91 & 221-6

With just over an over until tea, Surrey nearly had a perfect boost.

Keith Barker  edged Gareth Batty to Rory Burns at slip, but the opening batsman shelled a reasonably straight-forward chance.

  10. Tea at Headingleypublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Yorkshire 273 & 187 v Hampshire 141 & 200-4

Liam Dawson smacks an over-pitched ball from Ben Coad to the fence to take Hampshire to 200 on the stroke of tea.

Dawson is five not out, while Rilee Rossouw is at the other end on 22 not out.

Hard to pick a winner. Hampshire, who need 120 runs to win, are marginal favourites, but a few wickets and Yorkshire will take that title.

  11. Gloucestershire all outpublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 9 April 2017
    Breaking

    Kent 298 & 194-7 v Gloucestershire 149 & 61

Kent have beaten Gloucestershire by 334 runs.

Darren Stevens took 6-22 from his nine overs, with debutant James Harris finishing a wonderful game with 3-26.

A comprehensive win for the home side - and a long journey home for Gloucestershire, who lasted just 20.4 overs in their second innings.

  12. wicket

WICKET Ervine (c Hodd b Bresnan) 8published at 15:47 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Yorkshire 273 & 187 v Hampshire 141 & 195-4

Tim Bresnan has Sean Ervine caught behind by Andrew Hodd to give Yorkshire a boost just before tea.

There were just two overs scheduled before the break, but Ervine couldn't reach it. Liam Dawson has joined Rilee Rossouw at the crease with 125 runs needed to win.

    Great contest at Headingley.

  13. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Essex 159 & 24-0 v Lancashire 319 & 317-3d

Essex openers Varun Chopra and Nick Browne have earned their cups of tea and cake at Chelmsford.

The openers have seen off seven overs from Jimmy Anderson and Kyle Jarvis and can put their feet up for a stretch. Just don't tell them they're still 454 runs behind...

  14. Warwickshire stop the rotpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Surrey 454 v Warwickshire 91 & 206-6

Jonathan Trott and Keith Barker have stopped the rot at The Oval - at least for now.

Trott has moved onto 83 not out, while Barker has 11. They still trail by 157 runs, but they have some stability.

  15. Watch a classic Anderson out-swingerpublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Essex 159 & 18-0 v Lancashire 319 & 317-3d

Essex have survived the opening six overs from Lancashire bowlers Jimmy Anderson and Kyle Jarvis.

But judging by this video from Lancashire's Twitter feed, it is not easy going. Watch Nick Browne get beaten all ends up by a classic Anderson out-swinger early on.

Ed Quantrill: No surprise from Kent. Any other season they would have been promoted - just got unlucky last year was the single promotion year.

Warren Dyer: Darren Stevens must be the best player to have never played for England. Like a good vintage he gets better with age.

  17. A bright future for Daviespublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Essex 159 & 15-0 v Lancashire 319 & 317-3d

Alex Davies left the field earlier having scored a maiden first-class century. The 22-year-old wicketkeeper scored 140 not out after opening the batting. He's certainly one to watch for the future.

He's now behind the stumps watching Jimmy Anderson and Kyle Jarvis charge in.

Got him! Ben Coad celebrates yet another wicket. And it's a big one too - James Vince offering a return catch after getting bogged down slightly in some good tight bowling.

Anyone's game from here on. Hampshire require 144 runs to win with seven wickets remaining. Crucial period to come.

  20. Early pace-setterspublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

It's early days, but there has already been some impressive batting in Division One.

Yorkshire's Gary Ballance leads the way with 175 runs, with Lancashire's Dane Vilas (166) and Surrey's Mark Stoneman (165) not far behind.
