Pakistan prefer the pace on the ball. They lack the power which we saw from Sciver and Knight to get the ball over the infield and access the boundaries.

  2. Pak 82-3published at 22 overs

Hartley whirling away as she approaches the crease and there is a confident appeal as Nain is struck on the pad propping forward. But umpire Williams is not impressed and shakes her head.

  3. Pak 80-3published at 21 overs

    Target 378

The stylish Taylor takes a wide from Hazell down the leg side and whips off the bails. There is a loud appeal, either for a stumping or a catch, or was it just an attempt to avoid a wide. It didn't work whatever the case. Sadly we cannot see a replay with all the technical aids. They might not be for the purists but you kind of get used to their efficiency. A bit like Volvos.

It's officially a game! If I was still the captain, that's what I'd be counting down towards. England will be very pleased.

  5. Pak 78-3published at 20 overs

    Target 378

Hartley has some expensive looking dark wraparound glasses but unless they make it lighter I can't see any use for them. Twenty overs completed now so there will be no washout. Safe to say Pakistan well behind the required DLS rate.

The writing is on the wall for Pakistan. It's such a big ask for them from here.

  7. Pak 75-3published at 19 overs

    Target 378

The fabulous Henry Blofeld would be yelling "buzzers" as Nat Sciver's throw at the stumps misses everything and trickles away to the boundary. Bowler Dani Hazell has her head in her hands as she thinks of her figures but England can afford it. The players take drinks and they will probably not be ice cold ones.

Jackie Williams took her time to give that out. Asmavia looked unhappy with the decision and it looked to me like it might have been going down the leg side.

    Asmavia lbw b Hartley 5 (Pak 67-3)

Early success for the left-arm spin of Alex Hartley. Asmavia advanced and made no contact with an ungainly swipe. It struck her on the back thigh but West Indian umpire Jacqueline Williams - after a pause reminiscent of her compatriot Steve Bucknor - raised the finger. No DRS in this match remember and Asmavia would certainly have asked for a review had there been one.

  10. Pak 66-2published at 17 overs

    Target 378

Just two singles conceded by diminutive Dani Hazell, whose first three overs have gone for 10. That yellow foam mascot in the shape of a star is still causing intrigue to the children in the crowd. Maybe there is a former Big Brother contestant in there.

That was an amazing shot from Ayesha. It's a shot which shows she's a very good player.

  12. Pak 64-2published at 16 overs

    Target 378

Sweet timing from Ayesha, helping it high over mid-wicket for a one-bounce four. Pakistan have passed 270 three times, but two were against Ireland and one against the Netherlands and even with my dodgy back I'd fancy scoring a few runs against them. Either way, they need 314 from 34 overs in the murky conditions and that is going to take some doing.

  13. Pak 59-2published at 15 overs

    Target 378

Steady stuff from Pakistan against the probing spin of Hazell. They have never previously reached 300, in fact they have not really got close to it. Their highest score against an established cricketing nation is 263 against New Zealand.

  14. Pak 56-2published at 14 overs

    Target 378

Just to confirm, we need to get through 20 overs to constitute a match here, but England opt to continue with the medium pace of Jenny Gunn, although her run-up is hardly Bob Willisian in length.

  16. Pak 53-2published at 13 overs

    Target 378

Diminutive Dani Hazell enters the fray with her gentle off spin, there are some anguished cries as the ball fizzes past the bat and squeezes through the gloves of the helmeted and usually immaculate Sarah Taylor up to the stumps. Runs are given so that has to go down as a chance, albeit a very tough low one. As so often occurs, Ayesha compounds matters by slog-sweeping her sixth boundary.

Jenny Gunn doesn't look herself. She needs to get through her action a little more. She says it herself that she can be guilty of bowling too much down leg-side. She straightens up when she follows-through properly.

  18. Pak 48-2published at 12 overs

    Target 378

Jenny Gunn got a first baller with the bat and her first delivery with the ball is turned neatly to the square leg boundary by the increasingly-assured Ayesha. Two ladies sitting near each other are both knitting away feverishly, a cable-knit would be quite useful in these conditions, although never draped over the shoulders. A fifth boundary for Ayesha, stylishly flicked off the pads.

  19. Pak 38-2published at 11 overs

    Target 378

Thanks Higgy, not sure how close Pakistan are going to get but Ayesha collects two boundaries off Brunt, much to the chagrin of the combative Yorkshire lass. The weather radar showed a large band of rain across much of the country at 16:00 but it's still dry at the moment although not too warm. There is a cameraman with a woolly bobble hat on.

  20. Pak 29-2published at 10 overs

    Target 378

Dozens of children gather round a mascot dressed as a star as England begin to turn the screw on the pitch. A slip is in place for Anya Shrubsole who is a fine exponent of line and length. Just three from the over and it's time for me to hand over to Jamie Lillywhite. Enjoy the rest of the run-chase.
