That brought Heather Knight and Natalie Sciver together at the crease - and initially it was Knight who caught the eye with a number of boundaries, some more orthodox than others:

Here's a little look back at the England innings - as featured in our video clips. Tammy Beaymont was dropped off the first ball of the innings...

She then lost opening partner Sarah Taylor, who was trapped lbw for 11:

And England were then two down when Beaumont was caught behind:

Nat's game has gone to another level in the last year, she's playing a lot straighter and is so powerful. One of the criticisms of her was that she played around her front pad, but now whether they go full or short she's got an answer and I really felt for the Pakistan bowlers today.

Hopefully any girls - or boys - who have been following this match will have been inspired by that astonishing display from England, and Natalie Sciver in particular.

If it's inspired you go grab a bat and ball and strap the pads on, here's the BBC Get Inspired guide to getting involved in cricket.

What a performance from England and for me it was Nat Sciver who changed the game. She brought intensity to the innings and it was an outstanding innings from her, one I don't think many of us will forget.

I think this is going to be the first of many. You knew she was an unbelievable talent but it was just doing it on the big stage and this will give her an enormous amount of confidence. She's England's best player at the moment and is a matchwinner, she has a big career ahead.

  15. How's stat?!published at 14:36 British Summer Time 27 June 2017

Let's pause for some statistics here.

That was England's second highest ODI total (just one shy of the 378-5 against Pakistan at Worcester last year).

It was the second highest World Cup total by anyone (beaten only by Australia's 412-3 against Denmark in Mumbai in 1997) - one ahead of England's previous record of 376-2 against Pakistan at Vijayawada in 1997

The Knight/Sciver stand of 213 was their joint highest third-wicket ODI partnership, drawing level with the 213 added by Carole Hodges and Helen Plimmer against Ireland in the 1993 World Cup at Reading.

It was their second highest World Cup partnership, after the opening stand of 246 by Lynne Thomas and the legend Enid Bakewell against an International XI in the 1973 World Cup - only the second women's ODI of all time.

It was also a maiden ODI century for both Knight and Sciver.

England centurion Nat Sciver is asked what her excitement level is on a scale of 1-10 and admits: "About a 10. When I got to 96 I was thinking about a four to get to my hundred but I was just happy to get there. Mum, dad, brother are here to see it too. We knew it was going to be a good deck and the outfield is like lightning. Hopefully I can get some wickets now as well."

It's not ideal losing Tammy Beaumont and Sarah Taylor up front but in a roundabout way it's good other girls have had time in the middle going into the bigger games against Australia.

    Wyatt 42, Shrubsole 12

Shrubsole hoists it over long-off, it's short of the fielder, Shrubsole calls for a second and dives full-length into the crease at the striker's end

Danielle Wyatt finishes on 42 from 27 balls and Shrubsole on 12 from six. What an innings.
