  1. Watch: Van Niekerk run outpublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 18 July 2017

South Africa captain Dane van Niekerk has taken a bucket load of wickets for her side in this tournament. She also made a half-century against India four matches ago, so England will have been pleased to see the back of her today.

  2. SA 191-6published at 45 overs

A first boundary for Luus as she guides Gunn past the diving mid-off for four. I'm told of the existence of a fabulous ice cream tent at Bristol - not just a van, an entire tent - but I'd imagine the fans at the County Ground will want to sit tight for the last five overs before indulging themselves at the interval.

  3. SA 184-6published at 44.2 overs

Du Preez breaks the shackles as she blasts Gunn through the leg side for four. Next ball, she adds a single and turns for a second - but perhaps having seen two of her team-mates run out already, Sune Luus turns down Van Niekerk's call.

Mignon du Preez has scored three boundaries on her way to her half-century. There were 15 overs between her hitting the second and the third.

  5. SA 179-6published at 44 overs

Luus and Du Preez dab and sweep their way to four singles and a two from Alex Hartley's over, but they need boundaries if they are to set England a challenging score, I'd wager.

50 for Mignon du Preezpublished at 43 overs

    SA 172-6

Mignon du Preez may bear some responsibility for running out two of her partners, but the former captain has reached 50 for the first time in this tournament, from 74 balls. Her partner Sune Luus adds a couple of singles - but it's an excellent over from Jenny Gunn with just three runs from it.

Here's something for the South African fans to enjoy after those couple of wickets - watch Dane van Niekerk hitting the first six of the game.

That's what I was talking about from Tryon. You just need to give yourself a couple of balls. She did that to Hartley but didn't to Gunn, played her shot through early and now she's walking back.

    Tryon c & b Gunn 1 (SA 170-6)

Fantastic bowling change - medium-pacer Jenny Gunn induces a return catch from the dangerous Tryon from the first ball of her second spell. England keeping their foot on the South African jugular here.

Chloe Tryon needs to get a sense of the conditions out there in the middle. Ideally, when you look at the number of balls left, she needs to be facing a fair chunk of them.

I have no idea what that was from Alex Hartley. It was almost an indescribable, underarm shot put. She's smiling about it, and well she may!

  12. SA 170-5published at 42 overs

The big-hitting Chloe Tryon is the new batter - perhaps a little low in the order at number seven - and there's nearly a second run-out as Hartley fields off her own bowling at short mid-wicket. The bowler seems to jar her knee on the last ball of the over, pulling out of the delivery, but still has a smile on her face.

That was a neat piece of fielding but basically clueless running. There was never a run there.

    WICKETpublished at 41.3 overs

Van Niekerk run out (Sciver) 27 (SA 168-5)

Her bat was in the air as Hartley gathered Nat Sciver's throw from mid-wicket and Van Niekerk was sent back to the bowler's end... and that's out! A second run-out in which Du Preez has been involved, both of them rather needless.

  15. Third umpirepublished at 41.3 overs

Spinner Alex Hartley, possibly a frustrated orchestra conductor from the way she spreads her arms wide in her run-up, will have another twirl - and they have to go upstairs as there's a tight run-out call against Van Niekerk...

  16. Postpublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 18 July 2017

South Africa struggled to advance in the power play, but captain Dane van Niekerk struck a couple of boundaries to keep the score ticking along. 250 still feels some way off, however...

  17. 6 runs

    SA 166-4published at 41 overs

Du Preez 47, Van Niekerk 26

With the fielding restrictions lifted, Marsh is into her ninth over, and there's a palpable sense that South Africa need to move up a gear or two - especially with big hitters like Chloe Tryon yet to bat - and Van Niekerk finally cuts loose as she lofts Marsh over her head for the first six of the game. She has 26 from 38 balls.

There were just 22 runs from the power play, which is 4.4 an over. That's not enough.

  19. SA 157-4published at 40 overs

It looks perfect conditions in Bristol for a sunglasses, sunhat and glass of something cold and amber - a couple of fans in the stands have unfurled umbrellas, but only to shelter from the Bristolian sun. Van Niekerk tries another reverse dab, but comes within a whisker of being caught behind as the helmeted Taylor snaffles the ball. Van Niekerk, desperate to up the scoring rate, slices another four past the diving Hartley - let's be fair, not England's premier fielder - at short third man. The five-over powerplay has brought only 22 runs.
