While we wait for a restart at Hove, play is continuing at Bristol.

Michael Klinger has a half-century for hosts Gloucestershire against Hampshire off just 38 balls.

His side are 95-3 after 13 overs in a match reduced to 19 a side at the moment.

  5. Sharks 'on point'published at 20:03 British Summer Time 28 July 2017

    Ebony Rainford-Brent
Ex-England batter on BBC Radio 5 live Sports Extra

It started well for Sussex with that first over by Danny Briggs.

They've kept it nice and tight, held the length back. There's clearly a little bit in this wicket that's caused a few problems.

They seem to be on point today.

  6. Drink and a biscuit timepublished at 20:02 British Summer Time 28 July 2017

    James Taylor
Ex-England batsman on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

You just want to run off and get off as quick as possible when it rains like this.

Get inside, feet up, drink and a biscuit.

Middlesex will be dying to get off at this stage. They're in dire straits at the moment in this innings.

  7. rain stops play

    Middlesex 88-5published at 14.1 overs

George Garton switches ends and the first delivery of his latest over yields a single to Ryan Higgins. There are lots of umbrellas up in the ground, though - England's Sarah Taylor is huddled under one of them - and the umpires decide it's too heavy to allow play to continue for the time being.

Sussex will definitely be the happier side at the moment, but having had two of their six games so far abandoned, they'll be hoping this is just a passing shower.

  8. Middlesex 87-5published at 14 overs

Sussex's second spinner, Will Beer, takes over as the rain arrives at Hove. Ryan Higgins pulls away to mid-wicket but Chris Jordan makes a superb diving save to deny him a boundary.

Just four from the over and that's not good enough for Middlesex.

  9. Middlesex 83-5published at 13 overs

Danny Briggs finishes with 1-20 from his four overs - that's excellent from the slow left-armer. Ran Higgins is now out in the middle with George Scott and Middlesex need something special from these two.

  10. 'Middlesex making a mess'published at 19:54 British Summer Time 28 July 2017

    James Taylor
Ex-England batsman on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Middlesex are making a real mess of this.

It doesn't look the worst pitch to bat on, but you've got to give credit to Sussex's spinners, they've bowled nice and tight.

  11. wicket

WICKET Franklin (c Nash b Briggs (16)published at 12.3 overs

    Middlesex 81-5

George Scott is down the wicket to Danny Briggs but it's only a single to long-on. James Franklin gets hold of the next one, though, and deposits it into the crowd at deep mid-wicket. That's Franklin's final scoring stroke as he slices the next one straight to Chris Nash. Another big blow for Sussex.

  12. Middlesex 74-4published at 12 overs

George Scott's timing is out as he tried to pull a short ball from George Garton and it's only one run.

James Franklin wears a painful-looking blow on the back as he misses an attempt to heave the ball away through the leg-side, and it's another good over for Sussex at this stage - just five from it.

  13. Game on at Bristolpublished at 19:48 British Summer Time 28 July 2017

One other place they are playing currently is Bristol between Gloucestershire and Hampshire.

It's already been reduced to 19 overs a side and the hosts are batting first.

Gloucestershire are 43-2 after seven overs. Hampshire all-rounder Liam Dawson, left out by England at The Oval for the third Test against South Africa, has taken one of those two wickets to fall.

  14. Middlesex 69-4published at 11 overs

Sussex decide to keep Jofra Archer's final over in reserve and it's spinner Danny Briggs back for a second spell. Eight an over from here takes Middlesex into the mid-140s, but they only manage one solitary single from this one.

  16. Middlesex 68-4published at 10 overs

I wonder what kind of total Middlesex have in mind now, with their top four back on the boundary edge.

It's George Garton into the attack now, after 1-11 from two overs by Chris Jordan, varying the angle with his left-arm pace. His action seems to require far more effort than Jofra Archer's and George Scott carves a wide one away through point for four runs.

He tries a short one at James Franklin, who doesn't get hold of a pull shot but collects two to deep mid-wicket.

  18. Middlesex 60-4published at 9 overs

Jofra Archer really does look the business fast bowling-wise. Anyone know whether his international ambitions lie with England or his native West Indies?

Just a single from the first three balls, but an over-enthusiastic bouncer flies away over the keeper for six no-balls to boost the Middlesex total.

Far too much of the damp stuff in the air this evening by the banks of the Taff and the points are shared.

  20. Middlesex 53-4published at 8 overs

Chris Jordan almost has James Franklin with an excellent yorker, but a nick on the toe of the bat saves the New Zealander from an lbw verdict. The next one is dug in short, Franklin hooks and a top edge flies away over the keeper for four as the Middlesex total passes 50.

A lucky inside edge brings Franklin one from the final delivery, but he hobbles down the wicket. Seems to have a problem with his left leg. Hope it's nothing serious.
