  • Sussex overcome Gloucestershire by five wickets to go third

  1. South group updatepublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 11 August 2017

    • Gloucestershire are batting first against Sussex Sharks but lost two wickets in the opening over, with Michael Klinger caught off David Wiese for a duck and Iain Cockbain run out with just a single to his name.
    • Essex Eagles have made a fluent start against Middlesex, taking 28 off the first three overs, with Varun Chopra and Adam Wheater setting off at a healthy tempo.
    • England's Liam Dawson has opened the bowling for Hampshire against Kent Spitfires and has already accounted for Joe Denly, who was caught by Kyle Abbott for a duck.
  2. rain stops play

    Yorkshire 95-1published at 8 overs

It's been raining for some time at Headingley and as Adam Lyth walks off, umpires Mike Burns and Neil Mallender decide the rest of the players should do likewise. Up go the brollies, on come the covers, let's hope this won't be a long interruption.

Incidentally, it was on this very ground in 1982 that Mallender marked his Test debut with eight wickets against Pakistan, including 5-50 in the second innings.

Wickets count for little, it would seem, as he only played one more Test before being discarded.

  3. 'Cracking innings from Lyth'published at 19:04 British Summer Time 11 August 2017

    Richard Blakey
Ex-Yorkshire and England wicketkeeper on BBC Radio 5live

It's been a cracking innings from Adam Lyth. He looks disappointed strolling off. I think he would have fancied a bit more of that bowling - he looked in superb touch.

  4. wicket

WICKET Lyth (c Livingstone b Parkinson) 50published at 8 overs

Tom Kohler-Cadmore attempts a big hit towards mid-on but misses. It's still four for Yorkshire, though, as the ball eludes keeper Jos Buttler's grasp and runs away for byes. There's the breakthrough, though, as Adam Lyth slog-sweeps the final ball of the over, but doesn't make a clean contact and Liam Livingstone shows a safe pair of hands on the mid-wicket boundary.

  5. Ball on fire for Nottspublished at 19:02 British Summer Time 11 August 2017

    • Jake Ball has figures of 3-7 off his two overs, having removed Dom Sibley, Adam Hose and Grant Elliott for Notts Outlaws. The Birmingham Bears are 42-4 from 6.4 overs.
    • Durham Jets are 56-2 with Tom Latham leading the way on 35 against Worcestershire Rapids.
    • At Northampton, Leicestershire Foxes are 50-1 from 5.1 overs. They have Luke Ronchi and Mark Cosgrove in against Northants Steelbacks.

  6. 50 runs

for Adam Lythpublished at 7.3 overs

Young leg-spinner Matthew Parkinson is anto the attack and is greeted with a reverse sweep from Adam Lyth for two runs. A single to long-off takes Lyth to 50 off 28 balls, with four sixes and four fours.

  7. Yorkshire 85-0published at 7 overs

Spinner Stephen Parry is an accomplished white-ball bowler. 'So what', says Tom Kohler-Cadmore as he smites the slow left-armer's first delivery over long-on for six. Parry shortens his length and KC (whatever happened to the Sunshine Band?) and Adam Lyth exchange singles as the over has a quiet finish.

  8. Yorkshire 77-0published at 6 overs

    Kohler-Cadmore 26, Lyth 44

The run spree continues as Tom Kohler-Cadmore flips the first ball of a new Junaid Khan over to fine leg for four. A remarkable stroke from Adam Lyth later in the over as he uppercuts it over short third man for another.

  9. 'It's carnage out here'published at 18:49 British Summer Time 11 August 2017

    Yorkshire 68-0

    Richard Blakey
Ex-Yorkshire and England wicketkeeper on BBC Radio Leeds

I think the adrenaline is flowing out there for Adam Lyth at the moment. Every ball looks like it might be going to the boundary.

It's a remarkable start. It's carnage out here.

  10. 6 runs

    Yorkshire 68-0published at 5 overs

Lancashire need a wicket here to check Yorkshire's momentum, but instead Adam Lyth heaves Ryan McLaren over mid-wicket for another six. The maximum is followed by a boundary in a similar direction before Lyth cuts away for another four.

Next ball, six more as Lyth smashes it over long-on. There are a lot of smiling Yorkshire faces around Headingley at the moment. The rain is coming down as McLaren's final delivery goes past the outside edge.

  11. Elsewhere in the T20 Blast...published at 18:45 British Summer Time 11 August 2017

The 18:30 starts have kicked off - here's how they're getting on.

    • Durham Jets are 13-1 from three overs, with Paul Collingwood and Tom Latham at the crease against Worcestershire Rapids.
    • Leicestershire Foxes are 13-0 from two overs against hosts Northants Steelbacks.
    • Birmingham Bears have lost two wickets and are 22-2 against Notts Outlaws at Trent Bridge. Openers Ian Bell and Dom Sibley have fallen.
  12. Yorkshire 48-0published at 4 overs

Another bowling change as Jordan Clark takes the ball and Tom Kohler-Cadmore tickles his first delivery past the keeper for four. The next one is also on his pads and a more solid contact brings him four to mid-wicket.

Kohler-Cadmore thumps the next one to his favourite long-on area for the second six of his innings before Clark finally finds a way to stem the scoring with a slower ball.

  13. Yorkshire 32-0published at 3 overs

One over is enough for now for Steven Croft, who calls up Pakistan's Junaid Khan for the third over of the innings. After a single to Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Junaid angles one towards Adam Lyth's pads and the left-hander sends its skywards with a superbly timed pull shot, which flies away for six.

Lyth advances down the wicket to the final ball of the over and gets so much loft on it that it seems to take an eternity to land beyond the rope. That was almost high enough for one of the astronauts on the ISS to have taken it....good start for Yorkshire.

  14. Yorkshire 16-0published at 2 overs

Ryan McLaren opens up with a wide down the leg-side and then concedes a boundary as Adam Lyth glides it down to the vacant third man area. The Lancashire all-rounder responds by beating the outside edge and then bangs in a short one which Lyth merely ignores. A push to mid-off for a single brings the over to an end.

  15. 6 runs

    Yorkshire 9-0published at 1 over

Steven Croft opens the bowling and after a dot ball, Tom Kohler-Cadmore despatches his second delivery effortlessly over long-on for six. Wonder if Geoffrey (see 18:27pm) ever hit the second ball of an innings for six? That apart, it's a tidy enough effort by Croft.

  16. As Marvin Gaye said.....published at 18:28 British Summer Time 11 August 2017

The Yorkshire openers are heading to the middle at Headingley - let's get it on...

  17. Boycott's big momentpublished at 18:27 British Summer Time 11 August 2017

Yorkshire v Lancashire (play starts 18:30 BST)

To many, Geoffrey Boycott's approach to batting was the polar opposite of what we witness nowadays in the T20 format. It is worth remembering, though, that until Alex Hales' brilliant knock in the recent One-Day Cup final, Geoffrey held the record score for a domestic one-day final.

It is, however, his first-class record for which the former Yorkshire and England opener, and captain, is rightly acclaimed, and today is the 40th anniversary of him scoring his 100th first-class century.

At 17:49pm on 11 August 1977, Boycott on-drove Australia's Greg Chappell to the boundary to reach the milestone and he was immediately mobbed by members of the crowd.

Having said all that, here's another chance to watch again the moment when Test Match Special's Jonathan Agnew pulled a classic 'gotcha' on Geoffrey, casting doubt on whether it really was his 100th hundred.

An incredulous Geoffrey Boycott reacts to news his famous hundredth 100 might be in doubt.

  20. Yorkshire's home advantagepublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 11 August 2017

Yorkshire Vikings v Lancashire Lightning (start 18:30 BST)

    David WilleyImage source, Getty Images
    • Yorkshire have won nine of their last 10 T20 home matches, although the sole loss came in their most recent home game against Derbyshire Falcons.
    • The Vikings have also lost just one of their last six home games against the Lightning, winning four and tying one.
    • The danger men are obvious for both sides: Yorkshire's David Willey is the fourth-highest run-scorer with 379 in nine innings, while Lancashire's Jos Buttler has scored 318 at a run-rate of 148.
    • Yorkshire lead the way bowling-wise too, with Adil Rashid, Steven Patterson and Azeem Rafiq all on 11 wickets, while Tim Bresnan has 10 - seven of which are opening batsmen. No Lancashire bowler is into double-figures.
