  1. Notts bowled out for 477published at 16:39 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Sussex 565 v Nottinghamshire

Abidine Sakande finally takes the last Nottinghamshire wicket as Matthew Carter edges the Sussex bowler behind on 33.

The hosts have an 88-run first-innings lead but Notts only need to draw this match to be promoted.

With only four session left of the match you would imagine they are headed to Division One next season.

Even better news for the away side, the start of Sussex's second innings has been delayed by bad light.

    Essex 227 & 334-7 dec v Yorkshire 111 & 72-9

And there's the breakthrough. Shine the trophy up fellas.

Simon Harmer strikes Karl Carver on the shins and up goes the finger.

One wicket needed before the party can start.

  3. Postpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Essex 227 & 334-7 dec v Yorkshire 111 & 72-8

I think I did Matthew Fisher a dis-service earlier when I said Yorkshire had a long tail - he's up to 25 with a glorious cover drive off Neil Wagner.

Karl Carver is also digging in.

Essex are being frustrated by this ninth-wicket pair.

The home fans are kept waiting for the trophy presentation.

The result is inevitable - it's going to be a huge Essex win - but the young batsmen are hanging around.

Unsurprisingly, day three comes to an early close at Somerset.

The hosts will need seven wickets in 96 overs tomorrow to secure their safety.

Middlesex aren't down if they lose - it all depends on the result at Edgbaston.

  9. 'Another terrific session for Notts'published at 16:19 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Sussex 565 v Nottinghamshire 467-9 - tea

    Adrian Harms
    Sports reporter, BBC Sussex

Another terrific session for Notts who have avoided the follow-on and in so doing have one foot firmly back in Division One of the County Championship

A partnership of 242 between Chris Read (124) and Billy Root (134) laid the foundations and an unbroken last-wicket partnership between Harry Gurney with a career-best 36 not out and Matt Carter (32 not out) has rubbed salt in the Sussex wounds

The floodlights are on at Hove and under gloomy skies we may not get through the remaining 31 overs.

WICKET Raine (c Keogh b Sanderson) 8published at 16:11 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Leicestershire 128 & 245-7 v Northants 202

    Northants are still fighting.

Ben Sanderson claims his third wicket, removing Ben Raine.

    The Leicestershire lead is 171.

  13. Notts reach tea at Hovepublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Sussex 565 v Nottinghamshire 467-9

Tea was delayed at Hove for an extra half an hour as Sussex sought the final Nottinghamshire wicket.

However, Harry Gurney (36 not out) and Matthew Carter (32 not out) have done brilliantly to take the visitors to within 98 runs of the hosts' first innings total.

A draw from this match will see Notts promoted to Division One.

  14. Lancashire three downpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Lancashire 268 & 92-3 v Surrey 201-8 dec & 242

Hmm, there may be some life in the game at Old Trafford yet.

Lancashire captain Steven Croft drags Rikki Clarke on for a duck. The target is 176.

WICKET Cosgrove (lbw b Sanderson) 80published at 16:05 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Leicestershire 128 & 231-6 v Northants 202

It may be too little too late for Northants with the game at Hove heading towards a draw.

But they've got rid of Mark Cosgrove.

Ben Sanderson removes the Australian lbw - Leicestershire's lead is 160.

All Northants can do is win the game and hope Notts somehow lose against Sussex.

  16. Lancashire two downpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Lancashire 268 & 92-2 v Surrey 201-8 dec & 242

Rob Jones is dismissed by Surrey spinner Gareth Batty, but this should still be a walk in the park for the Red Rose.

They need 84 more to win with eight wickets in hand.

    38-8. Staggering.

That's five wickets for 20-year-old Sam Cook too.

Jack Brooks flashes him to slip and Varun Chopra clings on.

    Somerset 236 & 250-9 dec v Middlesex 142 & 40-3

I'm not sure how much more play we'll get at Taunton today.

It looks like Somerset will need seven Middlesex wickets on the final day to ensure survival.

The weather is set fair for Thursday and they'll have 96 overs to do it.

    Essex 227 & 334-7 dec v Yorkshire 111 & 37-7

This has turned into a bit of a shambles from Yorkshire. They're 37-7.

Steven Patterson edges Jamie Porter behind - it's the Essex paceman's 75th Championship wicket of the season.

Jack Brooks comes in at nine.

  20. Play resumes at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Essex 227 & 334-7 dec v Yorkshire 111 & 37-6

Matthew Fisher and Steven Patterson come out after tea for Yorkshire.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a tail this long - 19-year-old Fisher is batting at number seven.

How long will it take Essex to wrap up their unbeaten season?
