If it wasn't a day-night match it would definitely be a 300+ pitch. Beaumont and Knight made it look easy but then under lights it was harder to bat because the ball was skidding on a little bit and created a few more chances for the bowlers.

Heather Knight is very tactically astute, generally goes on gut instinct. Katherine Brunt and Anya Shrubsole will be her main bowlers, but as the game goes on, Laura Marsh and Sophie Ecclestone will come into it too.

Australia captain Rachael Haynes on TMS: "It was a really good fightback from our bowling group, and nice to finish off with a couple of wickets. We know tomorrow's a good time to bat so we want to get a couple of wickets and get out there. It's a good batting track, you've got to get over 300 here in the first innings, but the game can change really quickly as you can tell.

"It's pretty special to play Test cricket and be captain, it's nice to have the home crowd supporting us, Cricket Australia have done well promoting this series."

England wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor on TMS: "The game's literally in the balance now. We could have pushed on with a few more runs, but a couple of wickets cost us, so we've got to push on in the morning. I think it's getting more difficult to bat - credit to our batsmen for putting a total on the board, so we're pretty happy so far."

"It didn't behave too badly - it didn't misbehave and there wasn't as much swing as I thought there would be."

Meanwhile in the England men's Ashes warm-up match in Adelaide, Cricket Australia XI have declared on 233-9, handing the tourists a 60-run lead just before stumps on day two.

Hampshire leg-spinner Mason Crane took 3-78 from 21 overs while James Anderson and Chris Woakes chipped in with two wickets apiece.

But pace bowler Jake Ball added to England's injury problems when he sprained an ankle in his fourth over.

It's even stevens for me. England got themselves into a good position but then lost Tammy Beaumont and Heather Knight, while the loss of Natalie Sciver was another crucial one.

England will be kicking themselves not to have moved on from a promising position.

Jess Jonassen bowled really well under the lights and really attacked the stumps, and Tahlia McGrath and Amanda-Jade Wellington made wonderful debuts.

So, England have runs on the board and still some to add tomorrow - but they'll be disappointed with the last hour or so, having begun the final session on 157-3 and begun the final hour on 208-4.

The debutants are dominating as day one draws to a close - rookie leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington joins McGrath in the attack, while fellow Test debutant Fran Wilson is facing. Helmets are donned by wicketkeeper, short leg and silly point. A loopy delivery is chopped away for two by Wilson, who also whacks the penultimate ball of the day for two through the covers. There's no further alarm for England - and that's it for the day.

Tahlia McGrath, hands on hips, looks like she fancies her chances of picking up another wicket before the close, to round off what would be an excellent first day in Test cricket for the young seamer from South Australia. But it looks as though she'll have to be content with two wickets for the day - Fran Wilson adds a single to the score.

Jess Jonassen spins down the 98th over of the day - and as Isa Guha's Test batting strike rate of 25 is mocked on TMS, Anya Shrubsole is the "Great Wall of Somerset" personified. Great defence from the right-hander from Bath, that's a maiden over.

This is where Fran Wilson has to prove her worth - having been selected as the extra batter. She and Shrubsole know each other very well, having played together at Somerset.

Anya Shrubsole in at number nine - England have rather had the wind put up them in this last hour. Shrubsole - let's not forget, she hit the winning runs against South Africa in that World Cup semi-final - negotiates the rest of the over.

Perry - either because she's just bowled six overs with the second new ball, or because she can't stop laughing - is replaced in the attack by spinner Jess Jonassen, and Katherine Brunt (who always fancies herself as an all-rounder) is off the mark with a single. Jonassen then has a big, big shout for lbw against Wilson - unless there's the faintest inside edge on that one, it looked more "out" than the Heather Knight and Natalie Sciver lbws...
