  1. Aus 304-6published at 06:15 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2017

    Lead by 24

With nothing much happening for them, England look like they want to change the ball - Henry Blofeld has a phrase for this, he calls it "ballsmanship". Brunt has to soldier on with the old ball, and Perry adds another single to her score.

Meanwhile, on television, Charlotte Edwards is interviewing a couple of venerable former England players - ex-opener Lynne Thomas and the legend that is Enid Bakewell, who both played in the inaugural 1973 World Cup. Bakewell is entering into the spirit of the "pink day", in a pink shirt, a pink bandana, and a pink sombrero that would dwarf even those wide-brimmed hats Richie Richardson used to wear.

Aus 303-6published at 06:10 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2017

    Perry 128, McGrath 17

Australia have no need to take any risks at this stage - if anything, the rookie McGrath is playing in a more risky manner after facing 37 balls, than Perry who's faced 279. Heather Knight makes a stop in the covers and winces - it looks like she's taken a blow on the hand.

And if Perry wants to "fill her socks" as Mel Jones states, presumably Amanda-Jade Wellington will fill her boots?

Ellyse Perry has got past the milestone, but she's not giving anything away. She wants to fill her socks.

  4. Aus 302-6published at 06:06 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2017

    124 overs

Plenty of chat from Katherine Brunt as she follows through - but Perry's not taking the bait. Just a single from the over.

England would have probably set themselves a minimum target of 300 when they won the toss and batted on Thursday.

  6. Aus 301-6published at 06:02 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2017

    Perry 126, McGrath 17

McGrath, though, has shown attacking intent since her first delivery when she was dropped at extra cover by Heather Knight. So, every run she scores will hurt England that little bit more - tucking into Ecclestone's left-arm spin with a cover-driven four. That's Australia past the magic milestone of 300.

  7. Aus 297-6published at 06:00 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2017

    Lead by 17

Katherine Brunt has had a change of ends - but her first ball is too far on leg stump and Perry nudges it away - four leg byes are the result. A maiden over, but it's not really happened today for the fiery Barnsley right-armer.

It looks as though England were offering Perry a single for most of the over, before tightening it up for the last delivery or two - and if it were a plan to get Tahlia McGrath on strike next over, it's worked.

  9. Aus 293-6published at 05:56 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2017

    Perry 126, McGrath 13

The irrepressible Ellyse Perry starts the middle session (I've given up trying to call it afternoon or evening, as it's still dark outside here) with a single off teenager Ecclestone.

So, time for England to take stock - remember, in this day-night Test it's just a 20-minute break at this stage. TMS will shortly be speaking to Tracy Bevan, ambassador and director of the McGrath Foundation - which has become synonymous with the Sydney Tests in Australia, when the SCG turns pink - just as the North Sydney Oval has for this game.

Tracy was the best friend of Jane McGrath, wife of Aussie legend Glenn McGrath, who lost her life to breast cancer - and the foundation raises money to provide breast care nurses across Australia.

Ex-Australia all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special

The first session points to Australia. Ellyse Perry is still there on 125 not out, Tahlia McGrath has shown intent, and there's a lot of work to be done for England. Australia will hope they can stay in the ascendancy.

  18. Tea intervalpublished at 05:33 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2017

    Aus 292-6 (lead by 12)

Perry pushes Elwiss for a quick single, Shrubsole's throw from mid-off hits the stumps but Perry's well in her ground - and neither player was alert to the chance of a second, despite the ricochet taking the ball away from the bowler. McGrath continues to play positively as she cracks a full toss past short mid-on for four.

That's the end of the session - Australia unquestionably in control of the match after a potentially match-defining (and even series-defining) session.

  20. Aus 287-6published at 05:29 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2017

    Perry 124, McGrath 9

Probably time for one more over before tea - especially as McGrath's in no mood to play out a maiden, flicking Marsh past Beaumont at short leg and away for four.

I tell a lie - they're quickly round and there's going to be time for one more.
