Shades of the 1990s, when England's men often seemed to be proficient at winning final Tests in Sydney when the Ashes were already out of reach?

But let's not take anything away from England - a professional, all-round performance puts them in position to draw the series if they win again on Tuesday.

That game is a day-nighter so you can set your alarms a little later. Play starts at 08:10 GMT, with TMS on air from 08:00.

Thanks for your company - so whether you're turning off the lights and going back to sleep, or following our coverage of England in the Rugby League World Cup, do enjoy the rest of your Sunday. Adios.

Heather Knight did the right thing by saving Katherine Brunt for after the powerplay - she was probably trying too hard in that last game in the absence of Anya Shrubsole.

England's bowling figures merit a second look, particularly those of Gunn and Brunt:

    Shrubsole 3-0-23-0, Ecclestone 4-0-24-2, Hazell 3-0-24-1, Brunt 4-0-10-2, Gunn 3-0-13-4, Sciver 1-0-13-0.

England pace bowler Katherine Brunt on TMS: "I really enjoyed it out there, it's a shame we brought one of our best games today and not the other day, but hopefully we can still level the series. If it's equal points, that's a good finish and what we're striving for now. We've had one day to turn it around and that included a six-hour coach journey, so we've done really well to pick ourselves up. We want to level the series and we'll give it our all.

"I've worked very hard on my batting in the last couple of years, and every time I get the opportunity I try to take it. It was really bitter the other day, we're still feeling it and it still hurts."

Australia's Delissa Kimmince on TMS: "We lost too many wickets in clumps, Brunt bowled really well into the wicket and Gunn's slower balls were hard to get onto - they had their field set right and we kept hitting to fielders. It'd be disappointing to lose on Tuesday and retain the Ashes - it's better to retain it from winning the series rather than drawing."

England haven't become a bad team overnight - they generally don't start overseas tours well and were found wanting in that first T20. Anya Shrubsole being available was a big boost.

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 18 overs

Strano b Gunn 3 (Aus 112 all out)

An ugly attempted reverse slog-sweep from Strano allows Jenny Gunn to rearrange her furniture and pick up a fourth wicket - England win by 40 runs and still retain hope of drawing the overall series (even if the Ashes are gone).

England have been clinical from ball one. Danni Wyatt got them off to a great start, other players continued that momentum, they've looked in control and held all their catches.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 17.1 overs

    Jonassen c Sciver b Gunn 11 (Aus 110-9)

Start the car, this game is just about over... Jonassen tries to flick Gunn through mid-wicket and Nat Sciver dives to her left to take an impressive catch. Three wickets for Gunn.

  10. Aus 110-8published at 17 overs

    Ecclestone 4-0-24-2

Ecclestone has had a change of ends, Strano reverse-sweeps and misses. When she does connect, it's only a single to deep mid-wicket, while an umpire sportingly reties Strano's shoelaces between deliveries. Jonassen edges a three to the third man boundary, but the requirement is now 43 from 18 balls. And the Manuka Oval crowd has been announced - it's over 4,000.

  11. Aus 106-8published at 16 overs

    Target 153

Molly Strano is Australia's number 10, it's asking a lot of Jonassen to keep their hopes alive from this position. 47 from 24 balls is the target.

A floaty, slow delivery which was probably clattering into leg stump.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 15.3 overs

    Aley lbw b Gunn 1 (Aus 104-8)

This is becoming a procession - just as Jonassen raises Australian hopes by flogging Jenny Gunn for four, Sarah Aley perishes when she is deceived by a slower ball from the veteran seamer.

  14. Aus 99-7published at 15 overs

    Brunt 4-0-10-2

Sarah Aley joins Jonassen for her first innings in T20 international cricket - and Brunt returns to the attack, can she finish the Aussies off? It's not easy for Australia to keep the run rate ticking over - they need 54 from the last 30 balls of the match, and Brunt takes her cap with sparkling figures of 2-10 from her four overs.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 14 overs

    Kimmince b Ecclestone 17 (Aus 93-7)

Two fall in the same over - Kimmince slogs, misses, and is bowled. Pendulum swinging back towards England?

  16. Aus 93-6published at 13.5 overs

One left-hander replaces another as Jess Jonassen replaces Haynes.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 13.2 overs

    Haynes c Knight b Ecclestone 14 (Aus 90-6)

Smart work from England as skipper Heather Knight recalls teenage left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone to the attack - and she almost immediately induces a false shot as Aussie captain Haynes hits it straight to Knight at extra cover.

  18. 6 runs

    Aus 89-5published at 13 overs

    Haynes 14, Kimmince 14

Natalie Sciver on with her medium pace, and she starts with a legside wide to the left-handed Haynes. Kimmince slog-sweeps a flat six over square leg to keep her side in the hunt, while Shrubsole has to make a good diving stop from a top edge down to fine leg. 13 from the over means the requirement is down to 64 from 42 balls.

Australia will still feel they can get 10 an over, a boundary an over will help with that. But it's good for England that they've been picking up wickets consistently.

I might have added Tash Farrant to the England squad for these T20s. She was brought over from Perth to warm up with the squad ahead of the Test, and if there was any doubt over Anya Shrubsole, I thought Farrant might have been an option. They're so reliant on Brunt and Shrubsole.

  20. Aus 76-5published at 12 overs

    Haynes 13, Kimmince 3

It will take a captain's innings from Rachael Haynes if Australia are to win this - a delicate paddle against Hazell brings her two, while she swipes a four over mid-off. The target is down to 77 from 48 balls, with the required rate creeping over nine-and-a-half runs per over.
