That's such a good shot from Shaun Marsh! It's too full from Moeen and Marsh shuffles out of his crease and frees his arms with a drive that goes racing away for four. Moeen responds with one that turns past the edge of Marsh's drive as he shovels forward. Six! That's an almighty slog sweep from Mitch Starc, and it's gone flying into the stands, where a gentleman shells it. Eleven runs from that over.

I have a 9am lecture based on nutrition in sport. Is it worth skipping the lecture so I can listen to a Cook masterclass and lead us to the greatest chase ever?

Craig Overton is swinging his arms around in the deep as Chris Woakes keeps plugging away. Shaun Marsh isn't playing at anything he doesn't have to, but he nearly comes a cropper with another quick single as sub Mason Crane throws the ball and the stumps and ends up hitting Marsh's foot. Short from Woakes and it rises on Starc, who drops his hands and shuffles his head out of the way, before another big drive sends a thick outside edge down to the boundary. Starc's clearly decided that he's keeping his spot at eight.

Shaun Marsh is using his feet to Moeen, tiptoeing down the wicket and driving, but there's plenty of fielders in place to cut the ball off. This is a better length from Moeen, bowling it a bit fuller, but there's not the turn that Lyon found. Another push towards cover allows Marsh to steal a single, and keep Starc off strike to Woakes.

Jack Spearing: Knock them over for a lead of less than 350, and we have the smallest of chances...if Cook and Root play their skins out.

Harrison Taylor: This is all well and good from England, but I'm going back to bed as soon as we go into bat.

    Woakes 12-2-26-3

That's a better drive from Mitch Starc, knocking Chris Woakes back over his head. Starc runs two and decides that he wants three, but Shaun Marsh isn't coming. Broad whizzes the ball back in to Woakes, with Starc stranded in the middle of the pitch, and Woakes drops the ball. I think they might have had Starc there, he had to make the full desperate swan dive to get home. Woakes wastes a delivery by bouncing Starc, who'll store that information for when he's bowling, and then pats the final ball away.

What I like about Shaun Marsh is he is just trying to occupy the crease. He will be full of confidence but this isn't a wicket that you can try and wallop it. Too many of the England players tried to hit boundaries to get themselves going.

A round of applause for Jonny Bairtow as he goes tearing after a Starc knock around the corner, and he keeps it to three. That takes Australia's lead to over 315, which is the highest total chased on this ground. Still. We're in the days of drop-in pitches now. A touch too straight from Moeen, and Marsh works it off the pads with ease, before Moeen beats the outside edge. That held its line from Moeen and Bairstow took a sharp grab behind the stumps.

You've got to hand it to England. Whatever happens from here, at least they've shown a bit of fight. They (and the travelling fans) will be happy about that.

Chris Woakes currently has 3-16 from his 10 overs. Shaun Marsh works an easy single before Mitch Starc goes for an almighty drive, and somehow manages to avoid picking out a fielder. It was loose from Starc, his arms flailing around, and he's lucky that the ball drops over James Vince's head at cover. There's two runs there but Marsh, rather sagely, opts for a single. Oh, that's four! Marsh cuts, and cuts furiously, whacking a shorter ball over the slips and away to the ropes.

Australia have had a lot of luck but England have had their fair share with the weather - they missed a whole night session on day two.

  14. Aus 92-7published at 45 overs

Moeen's got two left-handers to bowl at here, and Starc's not the most patient. He blocks his first two deliveries, camped on the back foot, before an outside edge scurries past Joe Root at slip and they jog two. Moeen goes full for the rest of the over, and Starc pats the ball away.

That's a really good catch from Overton. Really good. He sticks his hands out to his left and then falls to his knees, and holds on. Well played. Mitch Starc is in - Pat Cummins is absolutely wasted at nine - and Shaun Marsh sees out the over.

Paine was trying to be positive but it was a good ball from Woakes. Overton had to dive forward and took a very good catch.

    Paine c Overton b Woakes 11 (Aus 90-7)

Play a team of Craig Overtons!

Tim Paine has been undone by a hook shot once again. Chris Woakes was miserly, offering nothing, before he banged it in short and Paine went after it. The ball went off the top edge and down towards, where two fielders were running in. Overton came forward the quickest, watches the ball like a hawk and dives to get two hands under the ball and safely cling on. That's a very good catch. What a debut he's had.

    Paine 11, Marsh 5

Moeen's taken two wickets during this series so far. It's vital he keeps some pressure on England here, and allow Root to rotate his bowlers at the other end. That's a touch wide from Moeen and Tim Paine cuts, but Chris Woakes dives and rolls to cut the ball off. Paine gets down low and swings his arms to drive for a single, while Marsh comes for a scamper down the pitch and ends up spooning a leading edge away.
