It's been a magnificent hundred because he had to weather so many short balls so early on.

England bring up the 300 - not many people would have predicted that in the hour after lunch when it was zipping around at ear height.

David Kohn: Now considering name change to Dawid.

Harry Gasper: A classy century from Dawid Malan which included some of the best shots of the series so far. Very positive partnership with Jonny Bairstow. England clearly decided to attack today.

Jack Blackburn: Well done Dawid Malan. An innings of maturity and crucial for England. It’s the newbies who are standing up in this series.

Mitchell Starc sends a seaming, swerving delivery into the pads of Jonny Bairstow but it's very leg sided.

There's nothing better than this. We've just sat through half an hour of fairly drab, cat and mouse cricket, waiting for the new ball to be taken, and now the tempo of the game has changed.

Dawid Malan is the 164th England player to score a century in Test cricket, and the first new member of the 100 club since Keaton Jennings hit 112 in Mumbai last December.

Malan is only the sixth member of the current England side to score a Test hundred. Much needed.
