Called in sick to work to watch the cricket with my Australian housemate. Wish I’d gone in now.

    Bancroft 24, Khawaja 0

Can Chris Woakes back up that fine over from Craig Overton and exert some pressure?

Decent enough from the other end, mixing up the length - but that's a nice shot. Cameron Bancroft leans into a cover drive which flashes to the fence. Lovely looking shot.

Overton is a good athlete. For someone that big, he's quite nimble. He fields at first slip for Somerset. He's not bowling at express pace but he's hitting the deck hard.

That was a very difficult chance. The ball just flicked his hand. It was a long way to his left.

Khawaja dropped on 0published at 14 overs

Usman Khawaja is the new man in. Can England turn one wicket into two or three? They need to. Australia are still 359 behind, it's worth remembering.

    Chance!

Oh that was tough. It's a caught and bowled chance off Khawaja, but we are talking career highlight time if Craig Overton pouches that. He flies a long way to his left, gets a big hand on it but down it goes.

Craig Overton has got David Warner and Steve Smith in his first two Tests - good on him! He'll be thinking it bounces more here than Taunton. The key for England now is imposing some pressure and make life a little more difficult.

He's nicked one! England haven't looked like taking a wicket until now.

    Hello!

England have a wicket, out of nothing really. Craig Overton just finds a bit of nip and bounce, surprising David Warner a touch and he feathers one through to the keeper.

He's fuming with himself. And I'm not surprised, given his average at the Waca and the ease with which he had negotiated the innings so far.

I've just remembered I didn't put the bins out before coming to work at 01:45 as well. Brilliant.

  10. Aus 44-0published at 13 overs

    Bancroft 20, Warner 22

Shot! David Warner reads a shortish ball from Chris Woakes, slapping away off the back foot. It's well hooked in by James Anderson too, saving the boundary.

That was a dismissive shot. Australia look very trouble free. But so did England, believe it or not. And then they lost 6-35...

The Aussies showing just how flat the wicket is. 400 looks under par. England needed 500 to out them under pressure.

Overton doesn't have a long run up. He just ambles in. You wonder if he could run in with a little more purpose.

  14. Aus 40-0published at 12 overs

Craig Overton comes into the attack and that's a good ball, steered into Cameron Bancroft who leaves it well.

The Aussie openers fancy batting against these two bowlers I reckon, Dave Warner trying an uppercut over the keeper and flashing - and missing.

  17. Aus 38-0published at 11 overs

Chris Woakes bends his back and gets a good bouncer out of the deck but Jonny Bairstow can't gather it in. A tough ask, though it is saved from going for four.

At the Swan River End of the ground is a walk of fame, pictures of WA players who have won Test caps for Australia. All the legends are there - Dennis Lillee, Terry Alderman, Adam Gilchrist, Justin Langer and, erm, Brad Williams.

Simon's not wrong. England fans and players alike need some inspiration. A Flintoff, Botham character required.

    Any ideas?

Suddenly this pitch looks very flat and England look a bit flat. There's not much chat out there.
