I like this. In the members' area, the best Test performances on this ground by home and away players.

Yet another 150 for Alastair Cook in Test cricket and he's getting warm applause from every part of the MCG.

He just keeps on batting. It comes with a top edge but Alastair Cook brings up his 150 with his 19th boundary in this innings.

    Can anyone stick with him?

Nathan Lyon loved that dismissal - his third of the innings. Chris Woakes is the new batsman, joining Alastair Cook, who is staying calm despite everything going on around him.

That was entertaining from Moeen Ali but England are in danger of not getting anywhere near the big first-innings total they need.

I don't mind this from Moeen Ali - it's just bad execution. It's a long hop. It's a brilliant catch by Shaun Marsh above his head.

I know a lot will say Moeen has thrown his wicket away but he's not, he's taken the attack back to Australia. This could do a lot for his confidence moving forward.

Ah. It was fun while it lasted.

In isolation this looks an awful dismissal for Moeen Ali. He has whacked a long hop from Nathan Lyon in the air straight to the fielder at extra cover. His quickfire innings is over.

A wicket thrown away or the right option because he had got out poking around all series?

Brilliant from Mooen. This could be the innings where he breaks the shackles. Even if he gets out next ball, I don't mind this approach.

When he doesn't do this then England have a very weak tail.

Four more! Like Richard says, Moeen is playing like a T20 batsman at the start of this innings. This ball was there to hit to be fair but Moeen hits a pull in the air to the fine leg boundary.

Whether this blast from Moeen lasts longer than a few overs or not, he is whittling down the deficit quickly. England are just 20 behind now. Moeen has 20 from 13 balls.

Moeen Ali is fed up of blocking and prodding and getting out to Nathan Lyon so he's just going to play his shots. If it's his day then anything could happen.

A single to Alastair Cook. Moeen Ali now on strike to Pat Cummins. What will happen now!?

The England 300 is up by the way.

What a shot when you're on three not out and you average 19 in the series. Oh my goodness.

    What on earth!???

Moeen now has Nathan Lyon to deal with who has dismissed him plenty of times in this series and on the first ball charges down the wicket and whacks the ball back down the ground! He doesn't get all of it and Pat Cummins thinks he is in business on the boundary rope but the ball just carries over the fielder for six.

You can only laugh. Moeen goes again and drives in the air through the covers for four! The next three balls played calmly before Moeen goes aerial again and takes two.

He has 15 from nine very eventful balls.

You shouldn't be playing the hook shot early on in your innings on this pitch. Especially with two men back behind square.

  15. Eng 289-5published at 91 overs

Moeen is in a tangle already. He shapes to hook Hazlewood second ball before pulling out. The bouncer is a good one, aimed at Moeen's helmet and actually clips the peak of his protective gear and flies out of the reach of Tim Paine and down to fine leg for four leg byes.

That's better Moeen. Hazlewood likes the mess Moeen made of that and tries a bouncer again, but the batsman plays it better and takes three.

It was beautifully bowled. It bounced; it hurried on. It teased him. Jonny was looking to force it off the back foot - and you don't need to at this stage. When you're a positive player it's in your DNA.

Once again Nathan Lyon does the business for his captain. He strikes in his first over.

As ever Jonny Bairstow is looking to score and he tries to force the off-spinner through the off-side on the back foot. The bounces does for Barstow and he ends up edging through to Tim Paine, who takes a really good catch.

    England are wobbling a little.

Steve Smith has had enough of Jackson Bird. Interestingly his first change is to bring spinner Nathan Lyon into the attack with this new ball nine overs old.
