A little full from Mason Crane first up, and Steve Smith steps back in his crease to hustle it away for a single.
There's some drift there for Crane but Usman Khawaja meets everything with a furiously straight bat, before he uses his feet to work with the spin and knock a single away. It all feels a bit... flat from England.
Moeen's off - here's Mason Crane.

I feel like I have spent my entire life watching Steve Smith bat.
There's only five overs to the new ball, which is why having Stuart Broad bowling now feels a bit... odd. Isn't this the idea time to have Tom Curran and Mason Crane operating?
Steve Smith, for what feels like the millionth time in this series, drives an easy single away into the covers. Khawaja pushes at the final ball of Broad's over and gets an edge, but it rolls along the ground towards a diving Joe Root.
That's Usman Khawaja's sixth Test century, from 29 matches. It's also his first in Sydney. His highest score is 174, made against New Zealand back in 2015.
Khawaja 101, Smith 62
That was a real show of emotion for Usman Khawaja. He's normally quite a laid back sort of guy but he looked so proud as he took his helmet off and raised his eyes up to the sky.
He takes a moment to settle himself back down before he crouches forward and blocks the rest of Moeen's over.

He's looked really solid in this innings. He's moved his feet really well.

A well, well-deserved hundred. He's not had the best of Ashes but this is a fine way to come to the party.
And there it is! A first Ashes century for Usman Khawaja!
Khawaja leans back and crashes a single away, before letting out an almighty yell as he charges down the pitch. His mum gets straight to her feet as the SCG give him a standing ovation. It's been a difficult series for Khawaja, but this has been a fine innings.
Here's Usman Khawaja on 99, with Moeen Ali to bowl at him...

You can't always say that Steve Smith plays shots of aesthetic genius but that was lovely.

A loosener from Stuart Broad, serving up something short and wide, and Steve Smith waits for an age before he clonks it through the covers and away for four. He hit it so well that he didn't even bother to run down the pitch. Glorious.
Stuart Broad readjusts and Smith leaves accordingly.
Three overs and out for James Anderson. Stuart Broad, on 399 Test wickets, has been brought into the attack.
Steve Smith has now scored 2,000 runs in Ashes series.

Khawaja defends as Moeen tightens his line up but that's short, too short, and Khawaja threads the ball away through covers for a single.
He's on 99. His mum looks on nervously from the stands.
That's four of them for Khawaja!
He leans back to give himself room, and a short Moeen delivery gets crashed away to the boundary. That takes him to 98.

Usman Khawaja is one hit away from a century. And if Moeen Ali is going to continue to bowl then that's a realistic hit away.
James Anderson mixes up his angles, crashing one down towards Steve Smith's leg stump, and it throws Smith off. He keeps his stump safe by thrusting a pad in front of it but that knocks him off balance, and he just about avoids toppling into his stumps.
Smith is furious with himself. A nice little push down the ground brings him a single, before Usman Khawja does the same.

It's terrific to look around the SCG and see a sea of pink. It was an amazing sign of respect to have England hand over their pink caps. I'm very proud.
